My copy of Alain Mallet: Mutt Slang is on its way (y)

I love the CD Baby e-mail telling me its in the post!

Your CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.

A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure it was in the best possible condition before mailing. Our world-renowned packing specialist lit a local artisan candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy.

We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved "Bon Voyage!" to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day, April 17, 2018.

We hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. In commemoration, we have placed your picture on our wall as "Customer of the Year." We're all exhausted but can't wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Sigh...
We miss you already. We'll be right here at http://cdbaby.com/, patiently awaiting your return.

if only it was that exotic! Billy came in an Amazon UK box together with this month's supply of Just For Men :giggle:

I noticed on the Surround mixing credits of Alain Mallet: Mutt Slang that it was Elliot Scheiner and Matt Scheiner (Elliot's son). Seem to recall that Elliot helped Steven Wilson get into surround mixing, maybe this will be a new surround prodigy.

Interesting observation. Hopefully. Matt will be a chip off the ole block.

Just received my DTS~CD of Billy Cobham LIVE in LONDON. I've never EVER received a shipment from AmazonUK that fast. A definite spin tonight.

Sure is feasible that his son will carry on............just like Giles Martin is doing from his pop (George ).

My Mutt Slang copy has made it across the pond in ten days, what a nice surprise! And ImportCDs claimed it was on back order...
Also, they still have various Songlines SACDs in stock for around $7 apiece.

Recently I bought my first DTS-CD and guess what? It's Sting "Brand New Day".:) Already listened to it and now I want another two his dts-cd titles!

That is a great ES mix, but my favorite DTS-CD titles are the ones that utilize old '70s quad mixes.

I highly recommend:
Poco- Crazy Eyes
Edgar Winter- Jasmine Nightdreams
Steve Miller- Fly Like An Eagle
Allman Brothers- At The Fillmore East
Moody Blues- Days Of Future Passed

The only DTS CD I own is the Allmans Live At The Fillmore, which I purchased several years ago. Now, I also own the same live recording in blu ray format. Makes me wonder how many DTS CDs also eventually saw the light of day as blu rays/DVD-As/SACDs. I have nothing against the DTS CD format, however, my library is primarily exists in the form of digital discs ripped to PCM/FLAC or DSD. And, no, I have never gone to the trouble of ripping my sole DTS CD, so all of the playable computer files I have exist as either PCM/FLAC or DSD. Regarding spinning actual discs, I do have my trusty OPPO 105D(something I desperately want to get away from given the expected obsolescence of all things OPPO). In truth, I only use the OPPO these days to watch movies and rip SACDs to DSD.

Crazy Eyes, btw, is one of my all time favorite recordings(sadly, owned only in stereo redbook CD format). I honestly can't listen to the title song without thinking about the demise of Gram Parsons.

fwiw, the Allmans Live @Fillmore DTS CD and Blu-ray are different surround mixes from one another.

the DTS CD set is much more active surround and utilises the old Quad mix, whereas the Blu-ray set has a new remix from multitracks by UMe engineer Kevin Reeves.

not to confuse things further but the DTS CD set & Blu-ray set are both different again from the surround mix on the Hybrid SACD set, which was remixed by Jeff Glixman! so that's 3 distinct surround mixes and releases of that album alone! phew!

the Crazy Eyes DTS CD is excellent, I wholeheartedly recommend it to you. it presents the active & immersive Quad mix better than any Q8 tape or SQ record ever could (imho!).

in order to hear as much Quad and 5.1 music as possible over the years i've tried not to dismiss any particular format and there are a number of worthwhile DTS CDs which to this day are the only way to hear various Quads on a more modern digital surround format, including;
- Edgar Winter's "Jasmine Nightdreams",
- Stephen Stills' "Stills",
- Bachman Turner Overdrive's "Not Fragile",
- Ohio Players' "Fire" & "Honey",
- Steve Miller "Fly Like An Eagle",
- Wings "Band On The Run", & "Venus & Mars"

..and others I can't recall off the top of my head! some of those DTS CDs are real treasures to me to this day!

Thanks for the excellent information fredblue. I never dismissed DTS CD, rather, it has just worked out that (almost) all of the surround discs that have stared me in the face are on other formats. Even looking at your signature, it appears that DTS CD represent a relatively smaller percentage of your impressively massive collection.

I'm not surprised to learn that the Allmans Live At The Fillmore was released in different mixes. It looks like I've got a few DTS CD purchases in my future!
