Yo Ho Ho

Neat layout, thanks for the update Chucky. But now we know those nine DIP switches are there you'll have to tell us what they do otherwise we'll all just have to fiddle with them to try to find out!

The unit has multiple program memories for all the different modes, the dip switches are used in the program setup.

...oh, and there was me thinking they would reveal all kinds of hidden world domination type functionality being kept secret until SMV2's were distributed around the planet awaiting activation remotely by evil genius Chucky deep in his underground Involve Audio lair!

I can't wait to get one of these things. And then comes the reveal...

AR: "Hey, you remember quadraphonic decoders?"
Guest: "Yep."
AR: "Well take a look at this one."
Guest: "Oh, how neat. You got hold of an old SQ decoder."
AR: "Old? What do you mean old?"
Guest: "Those things disappeared in the late '70s."
AR: "Uh...dude...take a look at the production date."
Guest (with mouth open): "2019? Whoaaaa....Coooooool!"

^^^^^^^^^^
After a few hours of drinking...the conversation picks up again..

Guest: "Remember the Slinky, I hear they are coming back
AR: "What does that have to do with anything"
Guest: "Well we were talking about the past so I just thought about the Slinky"
AR: No speech patterns detected but a strong sense of irritation very noticeable
Guest: "Hey, Remember the hula hoop"
AR: No speech patterns detected, this time obvious facial discomfort noted
Guest: "Hey dude, did you know they show reruns of Baywatch on cable now"
AR: "I'm not feeling very well, it's time for you to go home"
Guest: "Cool, give me a call when you want to hang out again"
AR: Escorts Guest to the door and lets him out "Not a chance in hell would I invite this idiot back again"
AR: Get's back in his chair and cranks up the music.."That Chucky Dude is a freaking genius, this surround master rocks"

At this point every neighbor has turned on their lights and are looking at AR's house wondering what is causing all this music, some are dancing in their living rooms while others are thinking about forming a neighborhood watch...

I was looking at the RCAs mounted directly to the smt board and was thinking about how some of my cables have uncomfortably high clamping (excessive interference fit issues). Do you recommend using low grip RCA cable ends to prevent physical damage to the board RCA interface?

I’m confident that your design insures that connecting/disconnecting mechanical loads will be constrained by the plastic RCA socket body very securely mounted so that it’s limited motions are being distributed into the metal chassis.
... but once products are released out into the hands of the unwashed masses, we observe the phenomenon of uniquely gifted individuals ‘out there’ able to exploit some unanticipated pathway toward the destruction of even the most robustly bulletproof designed and executed products.

So my question is:
How resistant are the RCA socket bodies to being “torqued-off” the board due to the applied forces resulting from very tight cable ends during connect and disconnect cycles?

Hi M-D-Z

Fear not each individual RCA connector has a provision for a mounting screw - so each is securely fastened to the rear Aluminium panel. No chance of damage.

Not trying to rush or pester (I always want things built right the first time, even if it takes longer!)
In regards to your post: "Creepy....use your wide angle lens!"

Sorry, just tired of listening to music on DPLXII here:

I'm ready for some tight beams;)

Me to!

Got the prototype board in and we are testing it......lots of stuff ups (Dave the bitch did not do the layout.....was too busy). We are stumbling through it as I type.

Good luck - But I can't imagine a board of that complexity wouldn't require a couple of iterations of artwork. I guess the demo unit for the show will have a lot of hand mods hidden away!
