So Brian, for someone who is not a classical expert, and someone who hasn't tried one of these multi-channel DSD downloads, what title would you suggest that would be very good surround material and something that a popular music fan might appreciate, operating outside of his or her normal listening genre?

Great question! Some recommendations on some DSD Surround Sound albums to consider during the 25% Off Sale:

1. Use the ST+MCH option at the NativeDSD Music store. It gets you the Stereo and Multichannel DSD files for just a couple dollars more than Multichannel DSD alone.

2. If you own - or are thinking about - a Multichannel DSD 256 DAC (like the exaSound e38, Merging+NADAC or Merging+Player) then consider ordering the DSD 256 files. That gets you the DSD 256 files + the DSD 128 and DSD 64 files for one price. And sets you up for the future.

3. On the NativeDSD Blog, Classical Music expert Bill Dodd shares his DSD Classical Music favorites in the Dodd's Discoveries column. There are some good ones noted there - not among the ones on sale in most cases.

Now for the albums, I'd recommend:

Chopin's Last Waltz
Robert Silverman, Piano

IsoMike
Genre: Classical
DSD Exclusive, Not Available on SACD or CD
https://www.nativedsd.com/albums/ISOMIKE5606-chopins-last-waltz

A live, 4-Channel direct to DSD 256 Multichannel recording by Ray Kimber using his unique IsoMike system. Very realistic piano recording, excellent sound quality.

Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5 and Barber: Adagio
Manfred Honeck, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

Reference Recordings - "Fresh" Series
Genre: Classical
https://referencerecordings.natived...ovich-symphony-no-5-barber-adagio-for-strings

Winner of the 2018 Grammy Awards for Best Orchestral Performance and Best Engineered Classical Album. This is another in the Reference Recordings "Fresh" Series of classical recordings produced and recorded by the team at Soundmirror. The performances are bold and exciting in Stereo but even more so in DSD Surround Sound. The sound quality is stellar - detailed, clean and rich. A favorite Surround Sound DSD recording here.

Concerto Metis
Enno Voorhorst, Guitar with String Orchestra

Cobra Records
Genre: Classical
DSD Exclusive, Not Available on SACD
https://www.nativedsd.com/albums/COBRA0066-concerto-metis

Was not familiar with guitarist Enno Voorhorst before this album. Excellent performance with a recording that fills the room in DSD Surround Sound.
Note the Surround Sound arrangement of the musicians in the YouTube video above. On the album, you hear the guitarist in the front channels and the String Orchestra in the surround channels.
Highly recommended. (Also available in DSD Binaural for headphone fans).

Vivaldi: The Four Seasons
Rachel Podger, Violin & Brecon Baroque

Channel Classics Records
Genre: Classical
https://www.nativedsd.com/albums/40318-le-quattro-stagioni

One of the best violin players of our time playing The Four Seasons in DSD Multichannel. An excellent Surround Sound recording.

The Girl From Bossa Nova
Jacintha

Groove Note Records
Genre: Vocal, Bossa Nova
https://www.nativedsd.com/albums/GRV1026-the-girl-from-bossa-nova

Jacintha's Bossa Nova album, now available in DSD 256 Surround Sound. Her vocals are isolated in the Center Channel and the quality of the music and vocals are amazing. Like she is in the room with you on the DSD 256 Multichannel edition. A must have for owners of Multichannel DSD 256 DACs!
