The old vB forum had a PM system, where you would SEND and RECEIVE Private Messages. These would be separate parts and kept in the INBOX and SENT areas of the PM system.

XenForo uses a "Conversation" system, in which a private message between two or more members is kept as a private thread, treated just as if it were a thread in the forum. Only those involved in the conversation will see the conversation, and if you have a long back and forth with someone, all of those messages will be displayed in a forum-type thread.

The import procedure from vB to xF treated all old PMs as individual conversations, as there was no logical link between the various INBOX and SENT ITEMS folders, so what you have now are a bunch of one post conversations going back to your first one.

There is no DELETE button, but if you LEAVE a conversation, and there is no once else involved, that conversation will delete itself after a period of 2 years (allegedly)

So, I would advise to just ignore all of your old vB4 messages and work going forward. If I would have known about this operation, I probably would have just deleted all PMs from all members, but I would guess that some of you would have wanted to hang on to them for archive reasons.

Anyway, check it out, get used to it, and that's the way it is. March 12, 2018.

But, it behaves just like a PM right? Meaning, the conversations cannot be "tapped" into by admin? Just trying to be transparent here as I know everyone would assume that to be the case. (y)

That's a fair question as the conversation method seems less private than the PM method..maybe just an appearance thing...but I was wondering that myself....if the mods have access to these "conversations"

There are 2 types of conversations. PROFILE POST and CONVERSATIONS

If you click someones username, and then START CONVERSATION, that's a private conversation that only you and whoever you invite can read. Mods cannot read these unless you invite them.

If you go to a members "area", and click on PROFILE POST, then you will post a message to that person that ANYONE can read. That's a post to the person's profile.

It will take a while to get used to. In the vB world, Profile Posts were called Public Messages.
