Are there any DVD-A/SACD drives for HTPC's? Does it require a new sound card?

What am I missing here?

SACD for HTPC = no way.
DVD-A for HTPC: you do need or
- Intervideo Windvd 6/7
- Powerdvd 7
but NOT newer version, on some of these the dvd-a support has been removed.
Another option is a Creative sound card (Audigy 2) which offered support for dvd-a but IIRC this support has been dropped on the new Vista drivers.
A good ol' copy of Windvd 6 with a good soundcard IMHO is the best option.

Winopener,

Thanks for the information. I have read in the DVD-A Authoring forum that Win DVD 6 is the way to go, good to have it confirmed.

SACD = No PC! Bummer (n)

Looks like plenty of Audigy Hardware still available. I am not worried about Vista Support. I will be using XP Pro and XP Pro 64 for the next few years and will resist Vista until I am shooting myself in the foot.

Once again, thanks. I am still doing my homework.

I just bought the latest version of Power DVD Ultra and it does a great job with DVD-Audio.

For SACD I have an SACD player (actually a universal player) connected to my PC via my MOTU firewire box, so if I want to make a DVD-A for the car from an SACD, I just record the SACD 6 channels onto the hard drive and take it from there.
