Well, good news! It looks like I can download directly to a usb thumb drive off my iPad...I just tested a file and played fine on my Denon AVR. That will save me from purchasing another PC but at the expense of having to purchase the flash drives that I can use off my Apple devices.

And once you have it on a USB drive, it can be plugged into an Oppo 100/200 series disc player where it will play as well.

Its one I'm thinking of getting.

It's a good one.
With plenty of music with Wes Montgomery and a top-notch band - over 2 hours worth.

The only issue for some listeners may be that it is a Mono recording.
If that isn't a deal breaker, I'd say go for it!

2xHD-Storyville says "Bobby Hackett possessed a talent for a lyrical style and polished, near-perfect execution which set him apart from all his colleagues. Trumpeter, cornetist and guitarist, Bobby was one of the greatest improvisers in the history of jazz, with “probably the perfect ear for harmony in all jazz”. His career spanned six decades (1930s – 1970s) and encompassed every style from New Orleans traditional to big band swing to the easy listening mood music of the 1950s. To hear Hackett’s harmonic structural powers in full flight you need only listen to any of the twelve tracks in this collection."

Led Zeppelin acoustic tribute "When The Levee Breaks" by Vanessa Fernandez.
Now available in Stereo DSD 256 from Groove Note.

When The Levee Breaks - 450.jpg

Singer Vanessa Fernandez brings us When The Levee Breaks on Groove Note Records. This is a unique album of the music of Led Zeppelin performed with the top studio musicians in LA on this analog recording, The band includes Tim Pierce Guitar on Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar & Electric Bass, Chris Chaney on Electric Bass, Jim Cox on Keyboards (Wurlitzer & Hammond B3 Organ), Jim Keltner on Drums, Shaker (on Babe), Luis Conte on Percussion and Hand Claps (on Black Dog) and Charlie Bisharat on Violin. NativeDSD makes this recording available for the first time as a DSD Download to music lovers outside the US and Canada.

When The Levee Breaks was produced by Ying Tan and Michael C Ross, recorded by Michael C. Ross, mastered and transferred from Analog to DSD by Mastering with Bernie Grundman with the DSD Download created by Dave Glasser at Airshow Mastering.

Native DSD Music Mastering Engineer Tom Caulfield remarked “I’ve never heard a drum kit sound like it does on “Kashmir”. It’s like I’m standing right next to the kit.”

Robbie Gerson from Audiophile Audition says "Perhaps the highlight of this album is “Kashmir”. This iconic track from Physical Graffiti is a bonafide legacy of rock and roll.

Bisharat’s opening Eastern-flavored violin lines are terrific. Page and Plant were known for this aspect of their music and continued the trend as a duo. Then, the band kicks in with the hypnotic, head-thumping rhythm. It is faithful to the original but maintains the stylization of the album. Fernandez adds just the right amount of toughness.

Vanessa Fernandez' When The Levee Breaks is a significant release. The combination of paying tribute to a monumental band like Led Zeppelin is framed as a personal musical journey.

The sound quality of this album is outstanding. Fernandez’s voice has a visceral, sultry tonality. Pierce’s acoustic guitar has a shimmering, natural quality. The stereo-mix is vibrant and the low-end drum and bass are prominent."

Note Nascoste (Hidden Notes) in Stereo DSD 256. (Not available on SACD release).
Some nice guitar music from Italy. Features Leonardo Gallucci on a 10 string guitar.

Cover - 450.jpg

Guitarist Leonardo Gallucci's debut album at NativeDSD on the Forward Music Italy label is titled Note Nascoste. It translates to "Hidden Notes" and celebrates the music that Gallucci brings you with his wonderful performances on a 10 chord guitar.

The album is available today at the Native DSD Music store in Stereo DSD 256, DSD 128 and DSD 64. A purchase of the DSD 256 or DSD 128 edition provides you with the lower DSD bit rates at no additional cost. It is a DSD Exclusive, Not on SACD release.

Gallucci tells us "Note Nascoste refers to Hidden Notes. These “hidden notes” belong to the concept of a wider musical structure, full of dense harmonies thanks to the 10 chord guitar.

The instrument can reduce the traditional guitar's limitations by using the medium bass register in a way that is so unexpected. Exploring with passion and curiosity the endless capability of the instrument, I discovered unknown musical depth and different sounds with amazing texture, colors, and warmth."

Fire & Rain: A Tribute to James Taylor from Groove Note.
Now available as a Stereo DSD 256 Download. Recommended!

cover.jpg

Fire and Rain is Jacintha's first new album since 2007. It is a Tribute to James Taylor and features a fabulous selection of hits from the James Taylor catalog including You've Got A Friend, Sweet Baby James, Walking Man, Fire & Rain, Shower The People and several others. Jacintha's first popular music vocal album represents a striking change of pace from her earlier audiophile releases in DSD.

Several of the best LA-based musicians associated with James Taylor during his lengthy and stellar career appear on this album including Lee Sklar (bass), Russ Kunkel (drums), Jim Cox (keyboards & currently touring with JT), and Dean Parks (acoustic guitar & currently touring with JT). All songs are arranged by Tim Pierce (Pierce also did the arrangements for two DSD releases by Vanessa Fernandez - Use Me and When The Levee Breaks - also available from NativeDSD). He also plays acoustic guitar on several tracks of Fire and Rain.

The entire album is recorded 100% pure analog at The Henson Studios in Hollywood, formerly known as A&M Studios (and the original location of the Charlie Chaplin film studios). In 1999, A&M Records was sold to Universal Music. Subsequently the studio location, including all the recording studio facilities and equipment, was purchased by The Jim Henson Company. Henson Recording Studios was established in 2000 and continues the legacy of technical expertise and excellent service founded by A&M.

The album was tracked to 2-inch Multitrack Analog tape running at 30 ips and mixed down to 1/4 inch tape also running at 30 ips. All tracking and mixing was done at Sunset Sound by recording engineer and co-producer Michael C. Ross. The album was mastered and transferred from Analog to DSD by Bernie Grundman at Bernie Grundman Mastering using the 1/4 inch 30 ips master tape.

Fire and Rain makes its debut as a DSD Download this week exclusively at the NativeDSD Music store. It's available in your choice of Stereo DSD 256, DSD 128 or DSD 64. Time for some blues in DSD. A new album in Stereo DSD 256 from Sonny Boy Williamson, transferred from Analog Master Tape by 2xHD using the Merging Technologies Horus Analog to DSD 256 converter.
Recommended for blues fans.

Sonny Boy Williamson - The Blues - 450.jpg

Iconic Blues Singer, Songwriter, and Harmonica Player Sonny Boy Williamson returns to NativeDSD Music with his second DSD release from 2xHD - Storyville Records. The Blues features 10 tracks recorded to Analog Tape at the Ivar Rosenberg Studio, Copenhagen on November 1, 1964, with Producer Karl Emil Knudsen and Recording Engineer Ivar Rosenberg. The album features Sonny Boy Williamson (harmonica and vocals), Memphis Slim (piano), Matt Murphy (guitar) and Bill Stephney (drums).

For this new DSD edition of the album, the Analog Master Tapes were converted to DSD 256 Stereo by Rene Laflamme at 2xHD Mastering using the Merging Technologies Horus Analog to DSD 256 Converter.

This is a DSD Exclusive release, not available on SACD. It's available at the NativeDSD Music store in Stereo DSD 256, DSD 128 and DSD 64. When you buy the DSD 256 or DSD 128 edition from NativeDSD, you will be able to download the lower DSD bit rate editions of the album at no added cost.

2xHD-Storyville Records says "Sonny Boy Williamson represented a powerful and direct link to the source of the blues. His wildly expressive harmonica playing echoed the hollers, shouts, howls, and whispers of the slaves who so often had little more than their own voices with which to express their responses to being in captivity. The welcome reissue of this album offers a rich example of Sonny Boy’s range of musical emotion, from rage through tenderness to sometimes unexpected humor."
