I just thought I would post a follow up to my repair at Centek here in Ottawa. I had them service my QRX7001 and it worked great for a few weeks. It seems to have a problem in the phono stage now, but not elsewhere. But I noticed that they didn't pay attention to details like replacing dead bulbs or cleaning pots. I left feeling like asking questions was frowned upon. I later took my Technics 8Track deck to have a full service done. I attached a sticky note with directions for what I wanted done. I asked for lights to be replaced, pots and contacts cleaned, belt replaced, motor grommets replaced(they were going gooey), align the heads and resolder the record leads to the head with record and playback tests. I even tried to supply a fresh blank tape, a stereo alignment tape and a Q8 for test purposes. I got a snarky response from the asian guy who seems to run the place and is the only guy allowed to talk to customers. I waited 3 months and called because I was worried. I was told they could not make it record. I said okay, just do everything else and put it together so I can at least play tapes. They told me they needed a week. I got it back and found right away that the contacts were still noisy, lights were still burnt out and the crosstalk was still bad on most tapes. That was last fall just after I got out of the hospital for a serious illness. I put up with it since then. Tonight I had to open it to retrieve almost half of a tape that got eaten and discovered that the record leads were severed and heatshrinked, the motor grommets weren't replaced and they put the screws in so tight that it was a PITA to open. I stripped a screw head and pinched myself trying to get the ribbon out. Needless to say, I am having a bad night, and couldn't finish playing my new tape from eBay before it was ruined.:howl Anyone got a spare copy of Whipped Cream? This one is in two long pieces. And it sounded great until this happened.
