Legendary guitarist Steve Hackett has announced the release of a special 6CD & 2DVD collection titled 'Broken Skies - Outspread Wings (1984-2006)' on the 5th October 2018 via InsideOutMusic.

Following on from 2015's 'Premonitions', this special art-book compiles the albums 'Till We Have Faces', 'Guitar Noir', 'Darktown', 'Feedback 86', 'To Watch The Storms' & 'Wild Orchids' - all newly remastered, alongside a host of bonus tracks. In addition to this, 2 DVD's are included which feature several recent live rarities and 5.1 mixes of selected songs, as well as the glorious 'Somewhere in South America' live DVD capturing a set in Buenos Aires. This is rounded off by brand new artwork from Roger Dean (Yes, Uriah Heep), beautifully presented as a 60-page book with liner notes, rare photos, lyrics and more.

Steve commented on the release: "I'm excited to announce the release of a special bumper retrospective 1984 - 2006 box set. This will include six re-mastered albums, several 5.1 surround sound tracks including a new version of the GTR track "When the Heart Rules the Mind", three previously unreleased live videos and the whole of the DVD Somewhere in South America, as well as a 60 page booklet including rare photos and new liner notes.

I'm incredibly proud of this collection which highlights a huge variety of styles and musical dreams in development over the course of more than twenty years..." Steve Hackett

Call me cautiously curious on this set. I am a SH fan but I doubt Steven Wilson was involved in the 5.1's and if not SW then it seems Roger King does most of SH's 5.1 and Roger K. has not done anything special in 5.1 so far.

Aside from the standard "book"...the most discouraging thing is that it refers to the surround portion as selected "songs"...not albums....maybe further clarification will come in the future....

Almost 4 months since my intial post about the contents of this set and they are still saying the same thing..which is vague at best..."selected songs"...no clue how many and which ones....but he sure is proud of the book:rolleyes:

I'm sitting in Heathrow airport waiting for my flight for my work trip, browsing for music to buy (it was my birthday a few days ago, so money to burn!) and I've decided to get the box set for the CDs (if the 5.1 is any good it'll be a bonus). So when I'm back in 2 weeks I'll let you know what its like. Assuming its released by then, I'm on my phone so not that easy to read with 61 year old eyes, my glasses are at the bottom of my bag!

Great minds think a like!
Thanks folks, at least the fire brigade managed to put the candles out on the cake :ROFLMAO: I've reached my hotel, so straight to the bar, a beer, and perusing QQ to see what is going on. The thing is I'll spend a fortune on music whilst I'm here, I always do, no surround, so I get bored, and go I'll have that, and that, and........

hmm... you got me thinking, Duncan.. i wonder if Involve could adapt/scale their system with the flat panel/electrostatic speakers into some (admittedly high-end) portable surround music solution..?
I already travel with a laptop, tablet, 2 phones, and a global mobile to wi-fi hotspot, so if it fits in small rucksack with the rest of the electronics! How about with Quadraphonic Electrostatic headphones?
