Ok, this might kill y'all...

The "top four" topic's awesome, and frankly is directly responsible for me spawning this one. If you want to join in, cool - here are the list I'm making: my top 100 titles that I want in hi-rez multi-chanel format. There are several limitations - the band can't already have a disc out IN MULTICHANEL (hence, the stones inclusion - at the same time, I'd put all of Floyd, of course, or even all of Zappa, but that'd be cheating in this arbitrary list). Some may already be out in vintage Quad, and I'm not counting Silverline "unfolding" or DTS as MC Hirez.

Basically, I'm trying to create a diverse list of music that I think can really shine in well produced MC. I'm also trying to select a single, definitive album that best displays what that band/artists music can sound like in hirez MC. Please, no format wars, no bickering, add your own list or take apart mine! :)

This is -not- just a list of my top 10 albums, many of these albums are not even my favourites by a particular artist. This is, however, an honest attempt at creating what I think to be a wide range of MC pop/rock titles by artists that have so far been overlooked in either format. These are in no particular order, and some I've listed as GH where I think a sampler collection (a la Elvis 1) would do fine. If there's something I list where I cheat, and the artist has something out already, let me know...

let the fun begin... (and, yes, it's a tall order...:) )

YIKES! This is a tall order..............

:-jon

Some interesting choices... very diverse list, yes!

I don't think I have the energy to attempt a list of 100. Yikes indeed!

yeah, was a sunday project... totally narcisitic (and hardly news) but I thought it'd be useful to see the wide diversity of music that's NOT out yet.

Obviously I'm leaning towards more "classic" recordings. I included far more collections than I thought I would - I figure that for multi-chanel to take off in a big way you'd need a wide sampling of tunes. For where I feel that a particular album in its entirety should be included, I did so. Beatles greatest hits MC would bug me, but Elvis was hardly a guy who did music on an LP basis.

I get teary when I think how good some of these would sound if done with the love and care that Rumours or The Stranger were done with. sigh...

I dread it'll never happen... ah, well, let's keep dreaming? So, who thinks something above should be changed/removed? :)

I'm honored to have spawned such a tall topic..I think..um..I'd post my list, but i just don't have that much time...

Awesome!!! :)

Heh, the Italian included Mororder... good call... I wouldn't buy it, but no format is complete without him. heheh

While I can't see how Beat Street can be improved with a 5.1 mix (vinyl for that one, for that stratchy, crappy sound :) ) a good list. Interesting changes on some of the albums I requested (don't shoot me, born in the usa for eg.)

Cool!

I'd only fight you on a couple - I'd be actually quite upset if album-y bands start getting multi-chanel treatment like the Police have. The Stones/Beatles, particularly with their big records, demand to have the full record with sequencing intact. So, Stone's GH is out for me for sure. I would take CSNY's Deja Vu instead of a GH...

Funny thing - Billy Paul is bascially unheard of here. I had -no idea- he was this huge 70s star 'till I lived in France for a year and he was all over the place. I'm sure it works the other way 'round, with some nostalgia European bands getting big play here and forgotten over there. Hey, Toronto sent Saga over to Germany for a few decades to be popular there... the US just sent David H, I guess... :)

Winopener,

lol..wow. the Beat Street soundtrack! Now I feel old..If the Beat Street sound track actually comes out on DVD-audio, we KNOW we have made it

thanx, great list...

About Beat Street, well, it does sound *very* nice thru the CS decoder. Probably i'm one of the few fools that bought this CD in 1984 and am still waiting for the CD release of the "Volume 2" (the one with the yellow cover background - i have a vinyl of it).

About Moroder, i know that it may sound cheesy for other productions it has, but if you like electronics with a spin, this album is a must-have. The Cd edition has been released only in Germany and it's quite rare - it took a long while to find it - and it's worthy every DM i've spent, even if i still have a sealed copy of the album.
Don't forget that Moroder was the producer behind Donna Summer, this album is full synth from start to end - one year before the smash Donna's hits "i feel love", still sampled and covered everywhere 25 years after its release.

Damn, the web ate some lines of my post...

About Billy Paul, *any* Philadelphia Sound album from 1971 to 1978 will be good. I've picked two of the major PIR act (Billy Paul and Harold Melvin) just because Three Degrees and O' Jays already have a SACD out. Too bad it's more than a year i'm trying to buy the O'jays "Ship Ahoy" and it's always "not available at this time" "out of print" "sorry we can' have it now" and so on. i LOVE "for the love of the money" in surround!!!!!
