Funk Me More!!!:SB

great choices! some gems there!
i'd love DV to do 'em all but if they were able to secure the Warner Quads i'd be particularly chuffed if they did the Quad of Graham Central Station's "Ain't No Bout A-Doubt It", a total hoot from the outset with bonkers 360 degree pans a-go-go, its amazing in surround and is crying out for a multichannel rerelease!

i'm glad they are interested over at the SHF, they must have good taste! ;)

more seriously, several Charlie Rich Quads have brilliant surround mixes and amazingly there's 5 of his Quads in all so lots for DV to release..!

(the 5 are: Behind Closed Doors, Best Of, Every Time You Touch Me I Get High, The Silver Fox & Very Special Love Songs... my personal favourites are BCD & ETYTMIGH, they're smashing!)
Wow five quads!!! That must be about tops, most quads on a given artist other that Chicago.

Any artist have more than 5 besides Chicago?

Quite a few had 5 or more actually...

Santana had even more than Chicago (12)- Santana, Abraxas, Santana III, Caravanserai, Welcome, Borboletta, Amigos, Festival, Love Devotion Surrender, Illuminations, Live! With Buddy Miles, Greatest Hits

Barbra Streisand had 6- Barbra Joan Streisand, The Way We Were, Butterfly, Lazy Afternoon, Live At The Forum, Stoney End

Mac Davis also had 5 (go figure)- All The Love In The World, Baby Don't Get Hook On Me, Burnin' Thing, Stop & Smell The Roses, Thunder In The Afternoon

The O'Jays had 5- Ship Ahoy, Survival, Family Reunion, Message In The Music, Live In London

...and many more I'm forgetting

Jeff Beck, Al Green, The Guess Who....and many others!

Nice work, how could I forget the Guess Who?

I think Santana (12 counting collaborations), The Guess Who (12), and Chicago (9) are top 3 for most quad releases. Though some of those easy-listening artists (Percy Faith, Ray Conniff, etc) had tons as well.

I think Ronnie Aldrich had 15! Acker Bilk was also no slouch!

Did I ever suggest Walter Murphy's "A Fifth of Beethoven"? That's kind of a neat crossover that blends both easy listening and has a bit of a pop/rock/disco lean.
It's also one of, if not the most scarce Quad 8-tracks out there. Has it EVER been remastered for a CD release?

That would be a wonderful stocking stuffer.

RCA did issue it on a Q8 Tape. So it is part of the Sony Music catalog.
Could happen.

since they are in the UK and set up there, I'd suggest going one further and getting multi tracks and remixing to surround,
what I would give to hear surround mixes of Joy Division/New Order. It would be Tomita level, with better vocals;)

great suggestion! tbh i was a bit surprised to find it on iTunes a few years back when i went looking since i thought it had long been forgotten.. and it looks like BBR put it out in the UK on CD a few years ago with bonus tracks too. the download was ok from what i recall a bit loud maybe but no idea what the CD sounds like but seems to be readily available for RRP still, which may (or may not!) have bearing on DV's ability and/or desire to license it.
while i remember it, there was (unbelievably for such a scarce tape!) a Quad conversion a few years ago, don't know if that's still doing the rounds. i have a recollection of it not totally being mixed how i envisaged it in surround but enjoyed it all the same.

Thought I'd bump this, added some new ones and pulled one we got (thanks for the Bartok!). Again, I try to stick within the realm of possibility (believe me, no one want wants Aerosmith's quads more than me).

Two-Fers:
Dave Mason- It's Like You Never Left & Dave Mason (my #1 pick right now)
O'Jays- Survival & Family Reunion
Harold Melvin- Black & Blue & Wake Up Everybody
MFSB- Love Is The Message & Philadelphia Freedom
REO Speedwagon- Lost In A Dream & This Time We Mean It
BS&T- Mirror Image & New City
Sly Stone- Small Talk & High On You
Redbone- Message From A Drum & Beaded Dreams Through Turquoise Eyes
Buddy Miles- Chapter VII & Booger Bear
Janis Ian- Between The Lines & Aftertones
Herbie Hancock- Sextant & Secrets
EWF- Spirit & That's The Way Of The World
Mahavishnu Orchestra- Between Nothingess & Apocalypse

Single Disc:
David Essex- Rock On
Raiders- Indian Reservation
Loggins & Messina- Native Sons
Wild Cherry- Electrified Funk
Labelle- Phoenix
BoC- Tyranny & Mutation
Santana & John McLaughlin- Love Devotion Surrender
Mott The Hoople- The Hoople

Maybe I ask for too much...though quite a few of my requests have been delivered upon :)

It's true: you've got a good track record. Hope this gives any and all of those titles the @sjcorne bump!

D-V seems to do well with obtaining permission to do R&B releases so I expect some of those on your wishlist might come to pass. I also don’t see Sony Music having too many issues with letting go of Loggins and Messina or Redbone. Either of the Winter brothers would also be a nice surprise. Let’s face it, the youngest of the baby boomers are now in their mid fifties so the companies have a limited time before so many classic recordings exceed their sell by date. I would be curious to see sales figures for the D-V albums released thus far. As an aside, I have to say that a quantum leap forward in virtual audio technology could produce a watershed moment for the re-release of surround music already tailor made for such a thing.

I left those off the list because @steelydave implied in another thread that they may not be currently OOP in the UK, but that sure would be awesome! They Only Come Out At Night is one of the best quads by anyone, and I'd love to hear how it sounds off the master tape as both my SQ LP and Q8 tape have problems. The SQ has a very midrange-heavy sound and is light on bass, while the tape is on the dull side compared to other Columbia Q8s in my collection. There's also an incredibly annoying dropout in the beginning of one of my favorite tracks, "Hangin' Around".

The quad mix is just dead-on perfect though- it's from that second batch of Columbia quads where the mixes are a bit more refined. "Frankenstein" is just as whacked out as you'd like it to be.

For anyone interested in grabbing the Q8, there's one on Discogs for $15 complete with slipcase, which is a really good price IMO. Though I found mine for like $4 in a bin of stereo-8s in a record store- I've never smiled so hard in my life.

I have to say, I regret that rules only allow me to give your post a single “like.”
