Greetings. Registered but been lurking a while.
I enjoy multi channel, have two universal players, and was an early quad
adopter (all that long gone now, sigh). (yeah I'm old)
Anyway, using Nero Wave Editor I recorded a track from DSOTM 2 channels
at a time (from the SACD) as my Audigy 2ZS only has 2 ch input.
Okay, moved it all into Nero SoundTrax-which allows creation of 6-8 discrete
channels.
Can not seem to sync the tracks to save my -er-butt.
Also don't know how to save as other than a "project" file.
Any tips? Is it even worth going this route?
I would like to archive my SACD / DVD-As on a looooooow budget.
Thanx,
Gerald

For mch recording better to get a mch soundcard; it saves you a hell of trouble trying to sync.

I want to add that I am not trying to archive old quad recordings-my ex got
all that stuff decades ago. I'm attempting to archive my -current- MC stuff.
Most of the software out there I am not up to speed on. I've spent hours
today reading countless posts here and at HA. I'm not averse to a learning
curve, but I can't seem to "intuitively" grasp how much of the stuff out there
works i.e., how to get the software to do what I need.
Since I have only a single line-in on my card, I'm forced to record either 1 or 2
channels of a MC song at a time. I'll get the sync figured out at some point,
hopefully, but I probably need to record only one channel at a time to move
it into SoundTrax, or else need a method to split stereo files into 2 mono waves. (see other post)
SoundTrax will ouput a MC wave file, which is good enough at this stage.
Maybe later I'll buy some (cheap) DVD-A authoring software.

It's very difficult to sync up two stereo tracks to get the "quad". Even harder if you are trying 3 stereo tracks for 5.1.

If you get a 6 Channel input card, you will save yourself tons of time and aggrevation. There are USB and Firewire units that will do the job as well, so you don't have to even put them IN the computer.

I have tried syncing 8 track tape rips, and it's just about impossible, as the tape always plays a bit differently every time. If your source is disc based, then it might be easier, but getting the starting times together will be a tricky deal.

You can buy DiscWelder Chrome for around $79 to make DVD-A's. There are also other shareware options out there as well, but your foundation should be a 6+ input card/USB Device, and a multi-track recording software package.

Good luck at whatever you decide!

Okay, I got 6 channels into Nero SoundTrax. Plays beautifully from within
the program.
When I export to an audio file (wav) it sounds like it picked up an extra
beat with the LFE track. Weird. Oh well, I made some progress anyway.
I may have SoundTrax generate it's own LFE and see how that works out.
