...from an article in Billboard -

Also in the pipeline for 2008 are expanded reissues of the vintage Cure albums "Disintegration" and "Wish," which Smith had to put on hold while finishing the band's upcoming double-disc set for Suretone/Geffen. He says "Disintegration" will feature a bonus disc of new remixes, and that he's pushing for "Wish" to include a new 5.1 audio mix.

"People seem to want to kill that off, which is a shame," he says of that format. "It's far and away the most fantastic way of listening to music."

Just let me know when and where to send my credit card information.

It's nice to know Robert Smith likes 5.1 music. The Cure's music could really benefit from the surround treatment. I wonder how busy Elliot Scheiner could be lately given the drought of 5.1 releases? Seems like a good match. Or maybe the guy who mixed the Depeche Mode SACDs (I don't recall his name).

Yeah...Disintegration seems to me to be the better choice for a 5.1 mix...it is a stronger album and the lush keyboards and guitars would be amazing in surround.

I'll take either one in surround! Disintegration is one of my desert island CDs and would love to have a high res version, particularly since the LP has missing tracks. Wish is heavily layered in guitars and would provide a lot of instrumentation to spread out in a surround mix.

and how about a 5.1 mix of Pornography?

Disintegration in 5.1 would be great; Mixed Up (remixes already) would be most welcome! :smokin

I actually took Disintegration with me on my recent vacation to Myrtle Beach.
I lounged by the pool and melted into this music!

This would be a dream come true.:smokin

C'mon, Robert Smith! We'd all love to hear some fantastic surround mixes of Cure albums. Would definitely buy so long as the final product---a good 5.1 mix plus decent audio fidelity (full rate DTS at a minimum, or hi-rez DVD-A or SACD preferably). It's always nice to read about bandmembers who see the potential for surround sound music as more than simply something done to live concert performance videos.

I was editing a downloaded Cure 1984 concert just today and reflected on how good they were here, just before they broke through to the big-time.

Robert Smith has the pull necessary and sounds like the enthusiasm to see it through. AND The Cure are a WEA artist so BSM could net some DVD-A titles! ;)

I'm in - that would be awesome...
Got "Trilogy" in Dobly 5.1 on a DVD-V live set:
All 3 albums played completely
Pornography, Disintegration & Bloodflowers.
Must go play it - it's been a while.

Definitely! My 3 fave Cure albums. A friend of mine flew over to Berlin (from Seattle) to see those concerts. I still recall my first Cure show...1981 on the Faith tour.

I cast another vote for "Disintegration" in 5.1 - hi-res preferably, tho I'd be happy with a good DTS mix.

Anyone have a way to get these notes to Smith?

Robert Smith for president! Seriously, it's artists of his stature that we need supporting the format.

The "Head on the Door" album would be awesome in surround! Too bad they just re-released a deluxe version of it.

I'll still take what I can get.

he does respond sometimes to messages at the board on the office Cure site, so he does seem to be paying attention to his community.

I'm now of the opinion that every artist is a potential 5.1 surround music artist. Try to reach them through fan sites and convert some fans along the way....:smokin:smokin

Definitely. I don't know about fan sites, but the artist is certainly key these days.

If ever I run into a band sitting at the bar of a casino they're playing later that night, I'll have to tell 'em how great their music would sound in 5.1. (Y'all have always wanted to hear the Oak Ridge Boys in surround, right?) Too bad I don't have 5.1 in the car to help demonstrate!
