Yeah, I somehow doubt we'll ever see The Cure playing the casino circuit.

Maybe Neil Diamond? I wouldn't mind some of his stuff, but I suspect he'd be more of a Vegas act than an act that plays all the casinos cross country. Most of those are, erm, well... "country" artists. Honestly, though, I do like the Oaks. But other than that I'm hard-pressed to find too many others I'd like. Maybe AKUS and Nickel Creek, but they're not exactly country. Seems we moreso get stuff like Collin Raye. A girl I know got to meet him and his band at the casino bar a few months back; I've seen the pictures. (Jokingly, I asked if it was her Dad just to piss her off. But that's another story. Besides, he isn't that old.)

Actually, when you think about it, the Oak Ridge Boys might be a good candidate for 5.1. I doubt they have the clout to get it done at this stage in their career, but if I remember correctly they are 4-5 guys singing vocal harmonies. And, I have 5 speakers... I don't care for country music and I really don't like casinos, but that's irrelevant. Now, for the totally below the belt shot - how many speakers can you fit in a trailer? That could really limit 5.1 appeal for country fans.

As far as casinos, I see where Kiss were playing a casino in eastern California recently and had to go on without one band member as he had a heart ailment. I guess only 3/4 of America is destined to be covered by Wal-Marts, the other 1/4 get casinos...

Depends. Is it a double-wide?

btw... I'm not a huge fan of the casinos, either. I don't hate 'em completely seeing as how I visit once or twice per year just for kicks and grins, but they always take my money. Only once did I ever come away with a profit. As such, I think---at the very least---that I deserve to get a free meal ticket to be used inside the casino's Burger King restaurant. Ever seen one of those? Yep... Hard to believe, but it's real.

If you have the Eagles Live DTS CD there is an excellant song titled, "Seven Bridges Road", that is mostly acupello harmonizing with astonishig surrond affect. You really feel like you are surrounded by the musicians. It is a song I play often to introduce folks to surround. ANYWAY, I would imagine the Oak Ridge Boys would sound really nice if thier tracks could be mixed like that song is. I am not a country fan, but I would by their SACD/DVDA in a heartbeat if it were so.

randy h

Yeah, I could imagine some of the Oak's music in surround. I've seen 'em 3 times, but the last time was 11 years ago.

Most of their songs wouldn't have quite the same level of 'majestic-ness' of Seven Bridges Road, but there is definitely quite a bit of vocal harmonizing. (Though I somehow imagine the Statler's actually harmonize more---but aren't as good, IMO.) And to give Richard Sterban (the bass singer) his own subwoofer channel would be a real treat! I'd prefer their older music from the late 70s / early 80s. The mid-80s and later sounded a bit too "eighties-ish" as far as instruments/production.

"Come On In, Baby Take Your Coat Off" (I always thought they sang "clothes off" for some reason.) Just had to mention that.

I am somewhat amazed that a discussion about The Cure can morph into a discussion about Oak Ridge Boys!

I suppose that just shows what an eclectic lot we have here heheheh. :)

Kinda weird, ain't it! I just love surround music, I guess.

That said, I think we'd probably get a very good multichannel disc from The Cure. I'm not sure if "Wish" would be the best candidate or not for a surround mix, sonically speaking, but I will admit that most of the Cure songs I know are off of "Wish". Hmmm.... I just "wish" the Cure would follow through and give us some DVD-Audio or SACD. (Did y'all like that? You know, how I "wished" for "wish"? Yep... some days I'm just so darn clever it amazes me. Simply amazes!!!! ;)

I'm now of the opinion that every artist is a potential 5.1 surround music artist.

I think that is definitely a true statement.

It was actually always so, even in the quad era.
The difference was that, until recently, the label could always balk by blaming technical issues: too expensive, too complicated, too this, too that.
Today, issuing a multichannel release in SOME format is becoming trivial.

Labels are way too caught up in formats, because that's what they think is their stock-in-trade. We should not make the same mistake, because format isn't really important. Soon they will all converge, and then all label excuses will have become moot.

Whispers were out there this week that the ongoing deluxe treatment of The Cure stuff was dead in the water but that evidently came from a source at Rhino that simply said "nothing on the release schedule." The other whispers say that the work on the next bunch is still in progress and that *both* Wish and Disintegration could see surround mixes.

We can hope.....

Sorry for resurrecting this thread purely for wishing and hoping, but since this year is the 25th anniversary for "Wish", it's about time they reissued it, and given his love for the Cure, this would be a perfect record for Steven Wilson to remix in 5.1 surround.

:)

Yep, here's hoping a Wish deluxe sees the light of day soon and that Lost Wishes is on it.

Robert mentioned that Mixed Up 2 was supposed to come out years ago too but it never happened. Too busy touring probably.

Some surround Cure would be awesome - and it'd be a perfect opportunity to release each album with all of the b-sides (hard to beat a Cure b-side - I like most of them at least as much as the album tracks), live tracks, single and 12" versions, music videos all conveniently on 1-2 BDs per album.

I wish (heheh) I had a $ or 2 for everything Bob Smith said was maybe coming....Wish 5.1, reissues of the live VHS shows etc, new music, solo album....endless list....I'd have enough to buy a Pink Floyd box set.

The Cure played my University just after I'd sat my finals and was waiting for the results. They were great, but I think there was maybe only 30 people in the audience, the hall was empty! I can't imagine that happening these days,..................and scarily that gig was 38 years ago :yikes

I would pay insane amounts of money for Mixed Up in 5.1 surround. Always liked The Cure, but their LP's are kinda hit/miss - but Mixed Up...that's their one album that is truly great from start to finish.
