So, how about live stuff - what shows have y'all been to recently and what's on the horizon?

This past Saturday we went up to one of the casinos just north of town and saw Blue Oyster Cult. I'd not seen them live since about '77 so was not sure what to expect, but it was not expensive and the theater was pretty small so why not take a chance. They were pretty good actually, though I'd have liked a bit more of Eric Bloom singing and little less of Buck. And they played Godzilla so we went home happy.

We've got tickets for Tom Petty next month, and just this morning I grabbed a pair for Penn & Teller in May.

those casinos are drawing good shows. We have one who has steely dan a few yhrs ago, but even though the band was on, the venue sucked, (it was in a gym type room, small very uncomfortable seats)
as did the sound, that I likend to a webcor phonograph with 6" speakers with whizzer cones.
sonce that they have had some good shows, i won't bother again.

Drove to L.A. to see Shellac a few months back. It was the first time I'd seen them since they opened up for Fugazi at the Rainbo Roller Rink in Chicago back in 1995 for a $5 show. I was looking into tickets for Jane's Addiction in May, but I've already seen them a bunch of times and I'm not sure I want to travel to see them again. Phoenix has the shittiest concert scene for a large city, almost no one comes here. I've seen hundreds of concerts over the years, but I've become very particular about who I make the effort to see nowadays.

My last show was this past summer with people from one of my ladies' groups. It was Herb Alpert and Lani Hall at a new venue called Viper Alley. Great sight lines and we were in the 10th row. I've seen them, or him alone five times. One of my five favorite acts. I've met both Herb and Lani a couple times, including hanging backstage with them at Poplar Creek for the TJB reunion in the early 80's. He's one of the nicest (and richest) people I've ever met. Several of my CD's and my DTS CD are autographed. Believe it or not, he sold more albums in the 60's in the US than even the Beatles!

You've never been to Miami, apparently. :)

I am really pumped to go see Steve Wilson on April 4th in Seattle(3 hour drive each way for me) as have not seen him play live in any form as first time would have been Blackfield in Vancouver BC last year but that show was unfortunately cancelled.
From all reports from the first leg of these shows that Steven and friends are putting on, this should be a incredible show so can't wait.

not many things come here at my location. at least artists i would be interested to attend.
past year was on Rammstein's concer in Edmonton. damn, almost 8 hours of driving to and
back. not really enjoyable part. couple of years back was here locally to Alice Cooper's show.
seems i do live in very weird city. over million, which is pretty big for Canada but feels like in
middle of nowhere.

Dream Theater is coming here this summer. I'm not very familiar with their music, but Crimson Projekct is the opening act. I'm trying to find out who will be in the CP line-up for this tour. The last concert I went to was a similar situation a couple of years ago when Porcupine Tree opened for Coheed and Cambria. We left after PT's set, extremely satisfied.

OOOOOEEEEEE!!!!!
SOUNDS LIKE REAL FUN!!!!
Not only Thomas Dolby and Mahavishnu (whom I've never seen playing live),
but Gilbert and Penn & Teller...We were planning(if I FOUND a job-which didn't and hasn't happenned- to go to the US just to see David Spade Live)

Stick Men are the bomb (even though I saw them opening for Porcupine Tree 2 years ago! and they tackled Stravinski's "Firebird"...whew!)
and man, I'd LOVE to see UK AGAIN, since it was my FIRST EVER concert (Nov 1979!)

In Madrid....NADA!!!! In Spain, well , if you have the money to travel...Sting is charging 100 EUROS a head to see him in ...TENERIFE!! ..and Björk is playing in Asturias (about 7 hours from here!)...better stock up on live DVDs!

ENJOY THEM and have a cold one on me during the UK gig!

Will be seeing Anathema Saturday 28-04 is Paradiso Amsterdam. Great venue, seems they are playing in larger venues this year. Last time, 1,5 years ago, i saw them in De Boerderij, Zoetermeer. Also a great venue with a lot of rock (classic, prog) gigs during the year.

Today I bought tickets to see Jonathan Richman here in June. Small club and $10 price - can't beat that, and he's great entertainment.

Just got home from the Tom Petty show. Enjoyable...I'd give it a 7 or 7.5 score. Dumping a couple of the throwaway tunes with pointless guitar solos and songs with a little more substance would have made it a 9. Pretty decent sound for a coliseum show - I was expecting a lot worse.

Duo Prism, a classical duo, at the Chicago Cultural Center. Rieko Aizawa, piano & Jesse Mills, violin. I've been to literally hundreds of classical concerts. Got there very early. Their performance during sound check was better than most people during the concert. The program featured Bach: Sonata No. 3 in E major, BWV 1016 & Poulenc: Sonata. If they visit your town and you like classical, don't miss them! http://www.duoprism.com

They're good and have quite the repertoire list on their site - I'd go see them if they were close by for sure.

Leonard Cohen announced his North America tour dates for the fall today - looks like a drive up to Denver for us!
