Has anybody heard the Meatloaf - Bat Out Of Hell SACD ?
I read a poor review of it the other day ( after ordering it online ) They said it sounded muddy , and that some of the vocals and instrumental parts had been re recorded . Please say this is not true.
I have decided to go all out on the DVD - A & SACD formats ( I wanted the best of both worlds ).
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells & the upcoming Pink Floyd - DSOTM are the reasons i just recently got to thinking about buying an entry level Sony SACD player.
I already own a Pioneer DVD - A player and am enjoying it to no end.

Tubular Bells in Multichannel SACD is excellent. It was the first major label Multichannel SACD and it remains one of the best. It's done directly from the original analog master tapes. Same mix as the '70s Quad Releases but sonically much, much better.

Can't say I've heard the Dark Side of the Moon Multichannel SACD, but those who have previewed it all rave about the sonics. It will be a must have.

At the recent AES conference in L.A., producer/engineer Frank Filipetti talked about the Meatloaf SACD. Apparently some of the multitrack tapes were lost in a fire so one track on the SACD features newly recorded parts and another is sourced from Stereo. Overall though it's still a fun Multichannel SACD.

Thanks for the feedback Bmoura <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=""> )
Yeah I'm really looking foward to hearing the DSOTM & Tubular Bells SACD's

Glad to help.

Tubular Bells continues to amaze given the age of the recording and the fact that it was one of the early Multichannel SACDs. It still holds its own quite well.

On DSOTM on Multichannel SACD, based on the early raves about the new surround mix, I'm anxious to grab a copy and hear it !

I have the MC BOOH disc. And it is true, it does sound somewhat muddy. Some parts have been re-recorded due to the multitracks being destryed by fire. This would include vocals as well. One track has even been MC'ed from a stereo source. This album was never an audiophile showpiece anyway. Not many of Todd Rundgren's productions from this time period are. They tend to lack bass and, to my ears, tend to be kind of mid-rangy sounding. It also may be a bit of a shock at first if you are used to hearing the stereo mix. This disc has one of those mixes that just doesn't sound very tight. I'm not sorry I bought it, but it's not one of my favorites.

I have the M/C SACD of Bat Out Of Hell and I don't really care too much for it. To be honest, I've never really liked this title anyway. I never did understand why it was such a blockbuster hit. I figured maybe the M/C mix might change my mind. It didn't. It only reinforced my already negative opinion. Musical content aside, I would say "muddy" is a very apt term for the M/C SACD.

One must wonder why this title gets m/c treatement with fake surround on a track, and rerecorded parts, when Boston is on the shelf ready to go!
