Hi Mark and all,

Firstly I MUST say that the Quad Discography is a superb place of reference ! I have visited it more times than I can count over several years.

So I can only say with pleasure..... I found something not on it !!! :)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=270261029524&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=017

I don't know if the link will work (and it won't work forever anyway), but I bought 'SOPD 15' on E*AY. It's a Simon And Garfunkel Japanese EP. 4 tracks, 33 1/3 rpm. Shiny gold foil front cover (nice !) titled simply 'Simon And Garfunkel Vol. 4'. I guess it is similar to SOPD 19 (Vol. 5) which IS listed in the discography. SQ symbols front and back cover and on the record's label.

Tracks are Side 1:Bridge Over Troubled Water, Keep The Customer Satisfied. Side 2:The Boxer, Baby Driver.

I haven't played it yet, but I'm assuming it will use the same mixes from the SQ LP (which I also have). It also leads me to deduce that there might be Vol 1,2,3 preceding it and maybe some after Vol. 5, but no evidence as yet.

I can add scans / photo's if anyone wants.

A nice item to add to my collection !

Keep up the good work,

Jem.

Nice find. I seem to recall seeing one of these on eBay in the past.

If you do get a scan of it, go ahead and post it. It would be interesting for all to see!

Hi Luca,

SOPA 26 is already on Mark's discography but I've never seen one. It's another nice disc and I might go for it...

Jem

I thought I'd give this old dusty thread a bump by including some loverly scans a seller posted online. :)

SOPA 26, SOPA 27 & SOPA 28 were three Simon And Garfunkel Japan Quad singles.

I love seeing them quirky releases.

Were SQ 45s supposed to sound better than their 33 RPM LP counterparts. I know it's usually more or less the case for Mono and Stereo, but I was curious to know if this was also true for Quad 45s. Usually, the greater the speed, the greater the fidelity.

Hi. Simon

Yes I think you are right because EMI. done a series of classical SQ LP`s at 45' and called them Angel Sonic Series

I wonder if any Quad LPs were done for 45 RPM playback.

Cool pics, Simon.
When it comes to 45's not a lot were made for the N.A. market, save a large number of ABC/COMMAND discs by 3 Dog Night and Steely Dan I believe.---for use in Jukeboxes mainly.

Columbia Records had perhaps a handful, but really did not promo this format, so it would seem the Japanese did somethings differently.

Overall there really were only a "smattering" for the local market in the U.S. But it's unique to find a few, I think anyway. :) :)

It is worth noting Angel's Sonic Series 45's were made in multitude and employed higher standards in their production.:upthumb

In stereo/mono: not on 7" usually. The vinyl can be lower quality and much of the track is cut even closer to the spindle than the end of a side of an album, and the tracking angle is off at that point too (and not coming back) unless you're linear tracking.
