I got my HK CCR SACD today, and I actually have the original CCR Gold quadraphonic 8 track to compare it to. Since a lot of you are into the sound files, I figures I would post the corresponding graphics of the wave files to the begining of "Bad Moon Rising".

On the discrete Quad 8 playback, there are no drums in the front channels. On the HK SACD, the drums are EVERYWHERE, indicating a "reverb" type of fake multichannel.

Obviously, we already know this is a joke, but here are the wave files for you to look at. (NOTE: I put the fronts together and the rears together for comparision purposes.

Jon how do you get the screen graphics to the page .
Do you hit print screen and save the file and then add it to the page . I have yet to get set up with a host page but I am interested in how it's done ! I like the tech part of it and it might be a good way to show how things are done in the digital conversion part of encoding for those who have no idea as to what is involved in doing a conversion and such .. !
Very techie ! Very cool!

Rob:

I opened the "front" files in SF6
Hit PRINT SCREEN which copied screen to clipboard
Opened PhotoImpact (A paint program)
Paste the clipbaord to a new document
Cropped the file
Saved as jpg
<repeat for rears>
Combined the two jpgs into a single file
Uploaded to my web space
Use the "IMG" tags to include in the message

That's it!

That's basically what I thought !
Did you give up on C.E.P. I see your using Sound Forge, not that there's anything wrong with it , But it seemed like you were giving C.E.P a shot ! Hadn't heard back from you about the work you were doing and about the settings I gave you to try out . I know it was a lot all at once , but if you give it some time it does get easier to figure out and becomes second nature, the more you try things the better idea you get on how to get the noise out and leave the music . I feel that C.E.P.s n.r. is better than SF, though more of a work out to get right , but once you get , you get it .. and you get better at killing the noise and just where it is and what to use to get rid of it.

Unfortunately seems that even the SACD camp has found his Sanctuary label... too bad it's a fake surround disc.
Any idea on how they produced the rear? Since it's a hybrid, have you tried the stereo layer with VarioMatrix or DPL2 or whatever?

If you look at the front a rear channels of the SACD, they almost look identical, except for the amplitude.

That was the bad suspect i had... so it's just a double stereo like some bad-old-cart... we can't buy a CCR thrill!

Why does Silverline get all the credit for fake surround? I have an old Ampex "quad" reel of Mantovani Today (LON H 1572) which says "Electronically Re-Recorded To Simulate Quad" on the back cover.

The reason is that Silverline is the current offender, and one of the most egregious ones at that. The example you cite lives in infamy, but "that slug don't slime no more".
