I can think of a whole bunch of titles from both Sony Music and WMG that I'd love to see on multichannel SACD, including Simon & Garfunfel's "BOTW". That would be a big seller, I'm sure.

Assuming you could get the titles licensed.

There have been comments on the Internet in the past that Paul Simon is not interested in Multichannel reissues of his recordings.
Things would have to change there before any reissues started moving.

Sony Electronics continues to be supportive of both SACD and DSD. Sony Music is another story. They are licensing a number of their Multichannel albums for release by Audio Fidelity. As Warner Music is also doing. The question is whether Sony and Warner prefer the licensing route vs. issuing the albums on their own.

Given the quality and release quantity to date from Audio Fidelity on their Multichannel SACD series, I'm fine with the licensing route! :)

The only format most major labels will do high-res releases for nowadays is Blu-Ray (although DVD-A still seems like a possibility at least as far as Universal are concerned).
If people want SACD, licensing to independents is the only way it's gonna get out there. SACD as a major label format has been dead with the coffin shut for essentially a decade in the US.

The major labels are happy licensing music for movies, TV and reissues. That works.

As to Blu Ray Audio, that seems pretty quiet - or dead as you would say - except for some activity from Universal Europe.
Again, licensing looks to be the key moving forward.

That's interesting, especially in light of the fact that "BOTW" and at least three of Paul's solo albums were released in SQ. If it could possibly make him a few sheckels, why would he object? Only he could answer, of course.

True. Ditto for other artists who has passed on the opportunity for their albums to be reissued on SACD - Stereo or Multichannel + Stereo. And record labels who have taken a pass.
In the meantime, the focus continues to be on albums, record labels and artists that are interested in those extra $. And there continue to be albums in that category.....

Paul Simon may not have had much say back in the quad days over his music. He did allow a DVD-A of his current album at the time to come out, but it's hard to tell if that was him or that was WB.

Since he pretty much controls his old solo stuff and carry's a heavy hand on the S&G stuff, I don't see much of a chance for that stuff to be reissued at this point. The perfect time was when he did his retrospective box with the alternate songs and bonus tracks. If those were SACDs or DVD-As in the box, now that would have been even more of a must buy.

As to the Japan SACDs being deleted, you can't blame that on a format at all. They probably had a limited license period and then it was over. It matters not if they were SACD, DVD-A, or Q8. Once the license is up, that's it. Just like when all of those MFSL Woodstock LP box sets went into the ground! :yikes

Another reason to buy them when they first come out. Then there is no worrying about the license limits on number of copies, time of license, etc.
That's how I do it! :)

Looks like Warner Japan has done another run of the Warner Multichannel SACDs. Four of the albums are now back in stock at Acoustic Sounds, Elusive Disc and Music Direct at $59.98 each.
Even more interesting, CD Japan and some of the music stores in Japan are selling new copies of these via Amazon for $24! A definite deal at that price.

Just as Snood did with Britney hehe :slap:

Not laughing here Snood. I grabbed the DVD-A a little while back (also at an agreeable price) but only had the chance to give it a once over. I liked what I heard but unfortunately time to listen properly seems to elude me.

Now if they'd do some "new" ones that would be great. There's those two Alice Cooper titles, for example.

Now if they'd do some "new" ones that would be great. There's those two Alice Cooper titles, for example.

The one DVDA title that should have been reissued as a Multichannel SACD was "Workingman's Dead" by the Grateful Dead.
Now since Mobile Fidelity has already released it as a stereo-only SACD, there's no way in hell that Audio Fidelity could release it themselves now.
A wasted opportunity in so many ways, especially since "The Doors" was one of the 10 WB SACD titles. Gimme a break…

Also, I agree that either of the Alice Cooper titles would have made for a great surround SACD release from WB, particularly "Billion Dollar Babies"
"No Secrets" by Carly Simon could also be great.

I've got that The Doors SACD. Sounds fantastic. I like the stereo remix version. But yea, Carly Simon and both of the Grateful Dead ones need to come out too. And re-release The Doors if they haven't already.
