The local antique mall beckoned me again today. Searched through a couple of other vendors who had albums and came up with a few more quad finds; Art Garfunkel - Angel Clare, Scott Jopin The Entertainer Ballet, Tony Mottola and the Quad Guitars. I had to double check on the Tony Mottola and make sure it was the quad and not the stereo version of Quad Guitars. Already made that mistake once with what I thought was a quad 8 track of the title. But this one was quad, so finally have the recording in quad. Also got a 2 record boxset from Bell Records called, Twenty Songs of the Century by composer Michel LeGrand. All these non-pop/rock finds have been kind of fun to listen to. I'm normally pretty much a rock/pop guy, but some of the classical, instrumental and easy listening stuff has some pretty fun quad mixes.

I've been in QS buying mode recently: Jim Croce (Greatest LP), "Rags To Rufus", and 4 Tops "Main Street People"...some good tracks on that! And a Vanguard sampler SQ album... hey, it was all of $4. John

I like the Columbia titles because they are easy to spot with the wide gold border on the cover.[/QUOTE]

Only the earliest Columbia SQ records had the large gold border on the cover. They later eliminated the border and replaced it with the word "Quadraphonic" somewhere on the cover.

Along with being easy to spot, I like the gold border issues cause they "look more special". And also if they sticked with that for SQ, all your SQ records would "match".

But also, how many times have we came across a gold border or a gold colored album cover and went "Oooo" :D but then went "Ooh" :( when we discovered it was just a stereo record. lol

Yes, there is definitely that occasional rush of adrenalin when you spot the top of a gold album, only to find it's some stereo golden oldies collection. :)

Now that you mention it, my Art Garfunkel find this weekend did not have the gold border.

Just in the mail today, Buddy Miles - Chapter VII. Listening to that now. Also received Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles Live! Not as excited about live vs studio albums, but still looking forward to hearing them both. Although I am really loving CD-4, there is a certain satisfaction knowing that when you play an SQ record back through a good decoder you get the proper effect without having to worry about the fine tuning that CD-4 can require to work just right.

Just picked up a pristine copy of Weather Report's "Mysterious Traveler" at the local wax emporium :) Cost me $6.99!

Another QS disc "Brass Fever"......not bad in a 1970's funky, soft porn soundtrack sort of way.......a few big name players also in the mix as guests such as Lee Rittenour and James Jamerson.

From the MA Database:

BRASS FEVER -
Brass Fever. Impulse ASD-9308 (QS)

From what he said, sounds like something that would be up my alley.

You know it's gonna be a decent day when you come to work and find a quad record on your desk.

Michael Murphey Swans Against The Sun (SQ) nice minty condition, has the shrink on it still.

I think my record collector buddy at work left it here. He knows how much I like quad.

I'm not familiar with this one. Details?

I ebay'd it for about $8 plus $4 for postage...it comes up there on occassion.
Some Impulse titles can be more in the free jazz vein....think Sam Rivers....
this is more structured and "funk" oriented. Kai Winding (sp?) seems to be the force behind the album,
with covers like "Lady Marmelade". A good listen. John

Phoebe Snow - Second Childhood. SQ. I've never heard this one because up until recently I've focused my quad collecting on Q8's and the occasional Q4 I've been lucky enough to score. This one has been on my list for awhile since it only was her one and only quad release and it was only released as an SQ quad LP. Pretty enjoyable listen. Not a real complex quad mix, but still great music.

Boomerangs!! Combing through two boxes of my late parents' records, I found many that I had given them when I got spares or CD's. These are albums I have on SQ & Q8. Third copies.
