I have an old printout of a web site with all the DTS CDs released.
One was titled Spaghetti Western - says release date was 01/26/99

I have not seen or heard of this one. I did some searching and could not find anything.

Was this actually released? What kind of music? Released under a different name?
Info?

Can you scan the printout so we'd have it available? Since I worked for DTS when the first DTS CD's were released, I have all the early catalogs and such, but kind of lost track of it all over the years. The last DTS CD I bought when it was first released was Santana's Abraxas.

Yes a scan would be cool since the web site does not exist anymore. Will re-post as PDF.

Also, this is perhaps a good place to bring up this subject:

Is there a list of DTS-CDs that came out in the 1990's by year and part number by DTS? It would also be good to also have the releases of DTS or the DTS company's DVD-A titles that also came out as well. Thanks.

on one of the early DTS releases
Pink floyd Dark side of the moon
Atom Hart mother
I asked brad why he did not release these Disc's
He said that the legal copyright was a mess
and he could no go ahead

Lots of things can be printed with a prayer. Some were anticipated, but took a lot of persuasion. Until i met Justin in an elevator an explained DTS we got nowhere with the Moodies. After that i went to London to and got some OKs. Musicians are into music and to get them to get interested in a delivery system was not easy. Lucky the Moodies were into quad in a big way. And Clapton also. We had Randy Bachman send us material he wanted out, just could not get the rights to Guess Who. Seems the easy ones really liked quad. Not sure Pink Floyd really cared about their quad releases. Perhaps that is why it was dropped. We always heard a new excuse every communication.
I still have that first HDS press release from Brad Miller and list of discs Brad had decided on. It was such a bummer when the next press release came out and Dark Side was gone.

The original list with release dates came from www.laserviews.com - dated 1/12/99 all were priced at $25.00
The only disc with a future date was Spaghetti Western - so possibly was planned but never released.

I think i remeber now. Not sure, still have to see if i have it, it may exist. I think this was a project of Rory's, Rory Kaplin, the fellow doing work to get titles at DTS. He was a musician, played with lots of folks including Michael Jackson. If ya google him, he still has connections to the industry. I will need to dig out the DTS titles and see if it exists. I know i heard it, whether it was issued, another story. May have heard a Hi-8. I think it got canned. I can ask Rory.

Thanks, you have a good memory.
That helped with the web search.
I could find but one bit on www.allbusiness.com (date unknown)
" producers Chuck Ainlay and Rory Kaplan remixed the "Spaghetti Western" soundtrack in 5.1-channel sound for Digital Theater Surround; "

I did not realise/forgotten this and the Studio Voodoo S/T were DTS CD before morphing into DVD A's. Thanks for that. Just ordered a S/H Larisa Stow from Amz US for $4.56. Ahhh.. what the heck.

Another DTS CD that got close to happening was Maria Muldaur - Southland of the Heart. The Telarc DTS sampler has a nice track from this album - "Think About You" 5:26 min. The sampler states that it would be a "Full release available in DTS late 1998". Another disc promised for the same release time was Ray Brown Trio - Summertime. That one of course did happen.

Here is the reply from Rory

Dear Tad

Spaghetti Western or David Alan as it was released DTS CD, was done because DTS wanted to prove an entire album from scratch could be done with a stereo and 5.1 mix for 50k or less.

Chuck Ainlay engineered and Chuck and I produced the record. We tracked at A&M studios, and overdubbed in Nashville at Back Stage studios.

A little trivia, we were trying to get them signed, and it was between them and Rascal Flats :)

Thanks for going the extra mile and clearing up the mystery.

Spaghetti Western (not released) renamed to -> Pacific Coast Highway DTS CD (first release) -> David Alan DVDA (second release)
