A 10 for sure.

This is definitely the definitive surround sound album, and the Blu-Ray is definitely the best way to experience this album.

A lot of people tend to prefer the Quad mix over the 5.1 but not me. I'll take the added clarity of the Guthrie mix over the mixing choices of Alan Parsons anyday.

One thing I can't understand is how much lower of a rating the SACD gets compared to this Blu-Ray. I agree that the Blu-Ray is definitely better but I think the SACD is at least an 8.5, but I would lean more towards a 9.
Oh, and why are Pink Floyd releases the only ones to offer 2 Dullby mixes? DTS (96/24) is far superior to any 640 Kbps stream.
At least they got it right when it comes to the Blu-Ray codec as PCM is the way to go.

I still hold out hope that more PF albums will be mixed and released in 5.1 (particularly The Wall).

The Blu-Ray and SACD are the exact same mixes, and both are lossless 'high resolution' formats. It's unlikely for them to sound different on a format basis (*playback* settings or hardware could well make a difference, but those are not intrinsic to the formats, and should not be ascribed to the formats). Your other claims are similarly tendentious. For example, the bitrate is not the only metric to use when evaluating lossy audio quality. DTS and Dolby allocate bits differently, and use different perceptual coding algorithms. The whole 'Dullby' taunting thing that has such currency in certain quarters here on QQ is really childish. Dolby AC3 isn't notably 'duller' than DTS.

The most important difference and certainly the most audible difference between the two DSotM mixes is, by an overwhelming margin, the difference in mixing choices between Guthrie's and Parsons'. Differences between formats pale in comparison and would certainly be much harder to demonstrate consistently across listeners, in blind, level-matched tests.

Quad mixes are superior imo.

I HATE it when the vocals are put in the center. Limits how large they can sound compared to stereo across fronts.

I only want the BDA of this. There is a Russian version--can anyone confirm if that makes any difference? It is listed as region free, only printing is in Russian.

It's a copy. Exactly the same, just a copy. Keep it on the DL, i have it, plays great.

The quad mix is brilliant! The placement of instruments is perfection. Shame the 5.1 could not be up to these standards, because it has fantastic sounding bass the quad lacks :{.

NOTE: Posts deleted concerning the Russian bootleg BluRay discs of DSOTM and WYWH.

These are not EMI discs, not official releases, and clearly unauthorized. Anyone can copy a disc and make a fancy looking slipcase cover. At QQ we do not condone or promote bootleg releases.

I can't believe I haven't voted on this yet. A super 10++++. My favorite album, and my favorite quad mix. LOVE IT. A 10.

10 for the BD, based on the 4.0 alone. It's nice to have the 5.1 for A/B...
The extras are very cool. Documentary, concert films.
My CDs and DVD were all out of there cases and very scratched. I'd like to listen to the concert CDs in faux-quad, but I'm not sure they're playable!

They changed their way of packing the CDs and DVDs after the first Immersion Box Set was released. For "Wish You Were Here" and "The Wall", they packed them in white, cardboard slipcases and then once the person got their set, they could stick them on that back disc holder.

So, my seller kindly offered a 35% refund because of the damaged discs. I really want to keep the set. I don't think I can afford to find another copy.
My thinking is to put the 35% refund toward a disc polisher? Does anyone think this could help? If so, is there a best polisher out there?
Or is some kind of lint-free manual wiping best? A polishing solution of some sort? I've never tried to salvage a cd or dvd.
Thankfully, the BD and disc 6 (unreleased tracks) were in their sleeves and are flawless.

**Neither of the damaged CDs nor the DVDs are as badly damaged as I feared last night, looking at them under very revealing light. Still pretty bad and it's mind-boggling why the seller didn't secure them.
So far, one of the CDs, without any polish, has played fine in the car (about 1/2 way through). It could well be I end up with 6 fully functioning discs and the deal of the century on the box at $36.**

When Blockbuster were still going I got to know one of the guys at the gaming section fairly well and used to get them to polish out the odd badly scratched old video game disc or used DVD.. but they warned me not to attempt it with any Blu-ray.. so I didn't..!

now, I've no idea if they were just being ultra cautious or if there is something behind that.. but seeing as the BD in your Immersion set is alright you should be ok with getting the CDs and DVD polished but I would advise - only based on the horror stories I have heard of the cheap do it yourself gadgets on Amazon/eBay actually making scratched discs worse - to take these discs to a specialist or a game/video store if they are any left in business near you and see if you can blag free polishing as I did or maybe drop them a few quid under the counter?

It's been my experience with both CDs and DVDs that some damaged discs that won't work perfectly in an actual player CAN be read cleanly in a computer drive. In my case, that means I can get perfect bits onto my server, in your case that might mean you can burn new copies.

From memory, so possibly completely wrong: Blu-ray data is nearer the surface than is the case for older media and is protected only by a very thin layer of some magic substance invented by TDK.

True.....BD~V/As have a protective layer but I have successfully treated ALL my blu rays (approximately 700) with Walker's Ultra Vivid polish and the before and after results are truly dramatic. I also use a Marigo HD Damper atop my discs (with the OPPO BDP~105) resulting in better retrieval of info.

Ultra Vivid is totally NON~ABRASIVE and one bottle treats approximately 200 discs. Does wonders for ALL Digital media including SACDs/DVD~A/Vs/RBCDs, etc. HIGHLY recommended!

Hmmm?

Hmmm indeed..! :yikes

Brasso is probably alright for buffing up your candlesticks or brass ornaments but for a CD..!?
Well.. I am dubious, to say the least... years ago people used to clean up records with stuff like lighter fluid and WD40 and I used to watch people do it regularly, they certainly made old vinyl look nice and shiny.. and smell funky.. but now I've got back into records the general feeling is thats potentially damaging to vinyl and good old water with a mild liquid surfactant/detergent is preferable if you're cleaning LPs etc on the cheap.. and then you get to all the exotic lotions and potions and machinery if you're really taking cleaning seriously, which I'm not totally sold on but am more open to the idea of it all.. hmm.. indeeeeeeed!!!! Proceed with caution my friend! Test the Brasso out first on a scratchy old disc you don't give a shit about maybe? :D
