from a technical stand point... what gives the best fake surround results when listening to stereo albums. cd-4 or sq
I have my cd player hooked up to my quad receiver and am enjoying some light "The Happiest Days of our Lives" before dinner.

I am trying to A B the Cd-4 mode with the SQ mode however the volume is much lower in SQ mode, so I feel like the comparison is a bit compromised since I have to adjust the volume.

so, which one is more fake, or less real...

You'll never get a "fake Quad" effect using CD-4, basically because of the way it works. SQ can sometimes give a reasonable effect, but the best way to start would be to use QS, because in the past many albums that have thought to have been "secret quad releases" was because of it's ability's to extract random out of phase information and create a respectable "fake" effect

ah, got it. I was getting SQ confused with QS.
My receiver does not have the QS mode, but it does have RM. Is that the same thing?
