Just giving Ladysmith Black Mambazo's "Long Walk to Freedom" a spin. I only got it today and put it on to do a quick check but I can't turn it off! Stunning recording and quite unlike anything else I have ever bought. Captivating.

I haven't got this one (yet!) but the other two LSBM SACDs are just the same, amazingly immersive mixes!
That said, so many of the "Heads Up" Telarc SACDs are fantastic in surround, almost every one I have is excellent.

Wonderful! How? When? where?
He's traceable through a number of quads, right? - Deodato's Prelude, Bitches Brew, Sebeskey's Giant Box, Santana's Borboletta - any others?
I spent three days on business in Lisbon, Portugal last week and came home craving Brazilian food and music.

Mr. Moreira and I were connected through Slingerland Drum Company, which was here in Chicago at the time. They have since moved to Conway, Arkansas.
As you likely know, Airto has played on hundreds of albums. Here are a few other Quad/5.1's:
Flora Purim (his BEAUTIFUL Wife) - Stories to Tell CD-4/Q8
Miles Davis - Live Evil SQ
Paul Simon & Rhymin' Simon both SQ/Q8
Mickey Hart - Over the Edge & Back - Best DVD-A
Those are all that come to mind at the moment and, no doubt Manny Moore.

Fantastic - I'll keep my eyes and ears out then, it's like Pete Frame family tree for quad!
Thank you, as always, for the wonderful insight.

Jethro Tull- TAAB DTS DVD-A (corrected version)
hate these shabbily authored discs that you can't change streams as you play...since I don't have a TV anymore, only a USB antenna (elgato..the kitty...which BTW, does NOT show the display unless it's a MOVING picture, so it didn't show the menu, so I had to put it in the Mac, which is also screwed up, a drive that does NOT like DVDs, had to put it back in after 4 tries and "clank" sounds)
took me like 15 minutes to play it....and I wrote down the steps to take to have it played without displays....
will post it on the poll thread...

Re: Listening to now (In Surround!)
Now playing Frost* "The Dividing Line" 5.1 from the three disc version of their live album "The Philadelphia Experiment." As far as I know this is the only 5.1 mix of any Frost* material. Shame it's only DD because the mix is absolutely mental (in a good way.)

It's very different to the stereo mix, isn't it? A bit less congested, which helps...
I remember thinking the rears were overpowering the fronts but it's been a while since I played it...

The Dividing Line 5.1 is only available on the 3 disc set it seems. Was this a limited thing, as I cannot see it for sale so quickly. Thanks.

Re: Listening to now (In Surround!)
Had passed on it for years The Mavericks "Trampoline" DTS disc, then I saw them on the tube at the the New Orleans Jazz/Heritage Festival in April, these guys are awesome! Nice use of the surrounds on some of the songs on here and I guess critically speaking, not their best album, but I've been playing the "heck" out of it. If these guys come anywhere near Baltimore/Harrisburg I'm a sucker for some tickets. John

The Deep End - Spyro Gyra (Hybrid MultiChannel SACD).
The last of the Spyro Gyra's I'm finally getting around to giving a proper listen.. and while it's a less engaging/exciting album than some of the others that got SACD-Surround-ified, fidelity and mix are equally as accomplished as the others (the prerequisite shakers, bells, ding-dongs and whistles are all there in the rears but it still all hangs together really nicely).
The whole lot are well worth checking out for anyone who's interested in smooth (but not sappy) jazz that's very well-recorded and mixed in effective sympathetic surround sound.

The Beautiful Letdown - Switchfoot (Hybrid MultiChannel SACD).
I love the whole disc and its great in surround.. but I don't feel it gets enough love, so I'm playing it and rabbiting on about it here & now!
For anyone in doubt about the credentials of this one in surround,
try track 4 ("Ammunition").. opening drums pan from front to back, front to back, back and forth.. very cool!
Yes it could be seen as gimmicky but it's a great use of surround and works with that song!
