Excuse my ignorance if this has been answered but is there a car sound system that can play any of the hi-res formats such as:
  • mkv;
  • AVCHD; and/or
  • flac 5.1?
DVD-A playback would also be useful. But the idea of burning a bunch of DVD-A copies to play in the car sounds like a pain.

there are several that play dvd-a; pioneer,kenwood,panasonic, and sony made one to play sacd, nothing i know of except a computer will play flac directly, avchd is a blu-ray codec and i don't believe there is a 12 volt blu-ray yet, i believe that mkv is also a computer codec, so doubtful that you will ever find any 12 volt audio system to handle those computer codecs, but blu-ray is probably on the way.

You can customize to fit this one:

Personally i would like to find out more infos about this puppy, the "music and movie" photo shows flac and ac3 7.1 capabilities. Fiddling around with the codecs (i supposte it's a arm-based thing) may yield some result.
