Overall, that was a very good performance last night. Gilmour's voice does seem to be a little worse for the wear as he's gotten older, but it still was a very enjoyable performance, and it's so great to see him still out there doing what he does best, making great music! :)

He just turned 70 years old this month so he has a good excuse for his voice going south on him. But his guitar playing is still as fluid as ever.

But you would think he could afford a new nice looking guitar.

Oh I'm pretty sure he can afford it. I can afford a new pair of slippers instead of the old worn out ratty ones I still wear. But they are sooooooo comfortable.

Oh man...you don't understand how musicians are about their instruments...especially guitars...we could probably dedicate a thread to that topic.... a lot of the greatest one's have some pretty "unattractive" instruments...

I was being facetious. I understand guitarists pretty well since I have been one since the 60s. I just happen to think it is stupid when they try and claim old guitars sound better than new guitars.

Some older guitars are better. A lot is mass produced nowadays and so they could lack the details, intricacies, nuances, and character that certain older guitars have.
To each his own really. As long as it helps David to play and sound great, I really don't care what exact guitars he uses. Whatever he uses now seems to work great for him, and that's all that matters. :)

A buddy of mine has a couple of spare tickets for Iron Maiden LA - first night - April 15.
You could either meet us there or hop a ride on our road trip from the Bay Area.
Sec 211, Row 8. Off to the side. Not great seats, but I'm sure you could get a reasonable deal and it's Maiden. Better to be there at all than to miss it. \m/
Just PM if at all interested.

I have this coffee table book, The Black Strat written by Phil Taylor, David's guitar handler. Highly recommended, the stories are fascinating and the pictures are awesome. Stories range from the mods David has done over the years, to its 10 year stint on a wall in a Hard Rock Cafe in Dallas. He used his red one as his guitar of choice for almost 20 years, but went back to the black one around 2005. It sat in Dallas from 1986 through 1997. When he plays it today, notice the guitar strap with the leather X's all through it. His wife Polly bought it for him several years back, it had belonged to Jimi Hendrix. Not sure if it's made the trip with him to this side of the pond this time around. He's lost guitars before over here ;)

Just got back from an INCREDIBLE Julieta Venegas concert in Madrid...have I mentioned I LOOOOOOOOooooooooOOOOOOOOOOve Julieta????

Chicago with Earth Wind & Fire on Wednesday night with my gal Kathryn. Must admit I found EW&F a bit more high energy and Philip Bailey can still hit all the high notes. Didn't realize one of the additional singers was his son. Chicago still very good and tight, Robert Lamm's voice seemed a little tired and I just can't get into the Peter Cetera replacement's singing...sorry. Yes, I bought the T shirt. Overall, the concert was like turning on a jukebox and nothing but hits comes out. John

Speaking of Chicago, they will be inducted into R&R HOF tonight. I had heard that Peter Cetera was to appear with them. According to WGN this morning, Cetera will NOT be there. They report he WAS invited, but made too many demands, which the other guys nixed. WGN reports that one of the demands was that the current, non-original members of Chicago not perform on stage, but would be replaced on stage by members of Cetera's current back up band! Danny Serafini (Serafine), the original drummer will be there, along with the late Terry Kath's Sister.

WGN TV Chicago will air some interviews with Chicago next Wednesday 4/13 & Thursday 4/14 on their Morning News Dean Richards segments. Sorry, national cable/satellite viewers, it won't air on WGN America.

Just for the record, here's Peter's side of things. http://petercetera.com
It really does amaze me that they couldn't get it all together, especially if a band like Pink Floyd could manage to do it for Live 8. Ah well, also speaking of Chicago, there's a new official documentary on the band that's been making the rounds at some film festivals I hear. I really hope a DVD & Blu-Ray release is likely this year! :)

I had the pleasure of backing Jimmy Buffett and Mac McAnally for a private gig in Augusta last night. Both could not have been more gracious and a great time was had by all!

Here they are performing an acoustic set before we joined them (my keyboard rig in the background).

That's very cool and thanks for sharing...but I must warn you...now that you have admitted playing on the same stage with Jimmy Buffett there might be some problems...Gos might start stalking you...wanting your autograph...he loves Jimmy...so if you see some shadowy figure in the background when you are parking your car...don't run...it's only Gos..

Uh, yeah...you are killing me BM!

Steely Dan & Steve Winwood Sat Jun 11 at Northerly Island, Chicago. I've seen Winwood once with Clapton. Have seen Steely Dan 6 times, including NY Rock & Soul Revue and Fagen solo. Always on time and a very well-rehearsed show. What else would you expect? And, yes, I'm complete on SD and SW, including all Traffic. Although they were popular, Traffic is one of the most underrated bands in rock.

Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, and Old Dominion Sat June 18 at Miller Park, Milwaukee.

Guns N Roses Fri July 1 at Soldier Field, Chicago. Hope Axl doesn't show up 4-5 hours late, as he was known for.

Luke Bryan Thu July 7th - Marcus Amphitheater (Summerfest) Milwaukee

Toby Keith Fri August 12 - Hollywood Casino Amphitheater Tinley Park, IL (formerly First Midwest Bank Amph, Tweeter Center, New World Amphitheater, etc.)

Keith Urban Fri November 4th - Bradley Center Milwaukee
