We have been waiting for years for a new CD4 Demodulator

And hoping that a new SQ decoder will come along

But I have been playing with a new Decoder
That is good as the QSD1

For any one that is keeping their QSD1 for a good price
Sell it now as this unit is half price

I have played all the QS demo Disc’s on this unit
And switched back and forth with the QSD1
And there is no difference in the decoding
I am told that it is a 3 band unit like the QSD1
It is sharper than the QSD1000 also
It is meant as a Stereo to 5.1 synthesizer
I have only played it as a 4 channel unit so far
And found it keeps the center channel better that the QSD1
It decodes as well as the QSD1 and on some tracks better
When it is production ever one that wanted the best
QS decoder and the best synthesizer will be able to get one
I will be getting one myself when there are out

Rusty:

When are you projecting this device will become available and who will the USA distributor be?

Justin

Yes
It is Reality Technologies
I have always thought that The QS System
was the best synthesizer for stereo
I think it will be about 3 months for release

Thanks Ron for the scoop. I am sure you would know how it sounds. You and I both know how good QS can work when it is done well. Looking forward to the next phase, the marketing.
No

I am Ron Brain

Also if any QS surround music lovers in Melbourne
would like to hear the unit contact me

Well, I am still interested, how do we know if it does or does not decode into the proper channels?

This: "I have played all the QS demo Disc’s on this unit
And switched back and forth with the QSD1
And there is no difference in the decoding" could be demonstrated by short clips played through each unit posted somewhere, even if DTS. I'd check it out!

From the Reality post about Involve: "we have based ours on the Sansui (Takahashi) QS matrix equations" . If is not a QS decoder than what is it?

Or rather, OD, what does it do? I had to skim through a lot of sales jargon to find the above quote and all I could find is that two ch. input produces multiple channels out, based on QS equations, is this not what it is purported to do?

Wait, is it because it is 5.1 or 7.1 and not 4.0? It wouldn't be the original intent of a 70's QS mixer because there are more channels, but if instrument placement in the soundfield was the same as an accurate decoder i think I could live with that, the experience would be very similar. I'm feeling optimistic today.

I read the article that reality put on the site
Rang Charlie up He said that it was based on the QS system
I was a little bit wary but I wanted to hear what it sounded like
It is very small (protype) 2 inputs 6 outputs
I have only played it as 4 Channel
I put on Ovation Vector 4 demo all the channel separated
as well as with the QSD1
I played Enoch light LPs Steely Dan all decoded great
and stereo Syn. Depending on what you put in from
surround to Hall
The only difference I could see is that
The Reality unit does not have a center rear effect
And cannot move sound from side to side in the rear channels
The QSD1 and the Syn.position on the CBS 4oo arethe only units that can do that
But that does not seem to make a difference when listening to songs
But all the diagonal and side separation are laser sharp
I asked Charlie if he would mind if I said that it was a
Excellent QS Quad decoder as Quadraphonic is a bad word in
The Audio industry
I can only say what I saw and heard
Lets not start a war there are not enough us surround fans
We can’t afford to lose any
By the Way Why Fi was invented in Melbourne
the company has been suing and winning Millions

So there is no separation in the rear, or just not much? I mean, if there was a circular pan, would it sound right? If the diagonal is laser sharp, there must be some RL to RR separation.
I agree there are not enough fans who have experienced surround music, and we should keep discussions focused on the sound (and technology). A new product to help with that, at a reasonable price point, would be cool.

Does the Ovation Vector 4 test disc have individual channel ID's that play in their respective channels?

the Vector plays all channels
FR FL RR RL and Diagonal FR to RL FL to RR

The separation between Rear Right And Left Rear is full

If you play a surround test it goes full circle
But like SQ the sound between right rear And left rear
on the scope it looks as if it goes to center and out to the other side
But the QSD1 goes across the back

I don't think that he would put a QS logo on the unit
as it is not built as a Quad decoder it just is

If my QSD1 breaks down this is a very good back up

As I understand it, rear center information is rare to be encoded or decoded, so this still sounds interesting!
The best software decoding is not available, and a QSD1 is not available for my budget even if it was available.
I like some stereo through Dolby Pro Logic II, but I suspect this Involve might be better, and I do have a few QS records.
