I've just found out... so sad.

Did interview him once... real gentleman. His music lives on.

Machine Head night tonight it is!

It was the sound of DP on par with Ritchie Blackmore. It takes a lot of b***s to front such a guitarist and keep the things at the same level.

Hush, was my favorite song in '68 when I enlisted. I used to play it all the time at the Ft Dix beer hall
Crank Machine Head to nite! maybe if we all do that, he will hear it If it's loud enough!

So sad, he will be missed. Met him once backstage at Hugo's Lake, PA with ELP and Dream Theater. Awesome show.
He was a kind, generous, intelligent English gentleman, there with his family surrounded by a bunch of "Spinal Tappers".
R.I.P.
Machine Head turned up loud tonight.

Strange, I played Machine Head the day before he passed. I always thought his organ playing was the best part. He seemed to have one channel all to himself. Thats the channel I always boosted a little.
Phil.

I have always loved Lazy, especially the live version that has his great intro. I only saw Purple once in 1985. He was a great musician! Sorry to see him go...

Machine Head tonight.

Reception on the same transponder like the last for ARD:

WDR HD Koln (Cologne) is fine. But please keep in mind the original airing in the eighties was standart definition.

Unfortunately the sound quality is not great, they had some problems with the sound during that night. So what you will hear is the same I remember from the old days last century. But hey, better than nothing.

And as we are on topic of tv concerts, here's another one:

Santana at the "Palast der Republik" in East Berlin 1987:
http://www.mdr.de/tv/programm/sendung147312.html

This one will be shown next thursday at 11:05pm.

Satellite data here:

Die Daten für die Landes- und Regionalprogramme MDR SACHSEN, MDR S-ANHALT und MDR THÜRINGEN sowie NDR FS MV, NDR FS HH, NDR FS NDS und NDR FS SH, rbb Berlin, rbb Brandenburg und SWR Fernsehen RP:Satellit Astra auf 19,2 Grad Ost
Transponder 85
Downlink-Frequenz (GHz) 12,1095
Symbolrate (MSym/s) 27,500
Fehlerschutz (FEC) 3/4
Polarisation horizontal

This one is especially interesting since we in the west (mainly) didn't get the TV stations from the east, and I cannot remember they showed this material after the fall of the Berlin wall and the reuninfication in the age of satellite TV and cable reception before. They have shown Joe Cocker, and a concert with John McLaughlin with Paco some weeks back, also from East Berlin.

A good source for live concert on tv and radio from Germany, Swizerland and Austria (and other countries in Europe) is a database and forum here:
http://www.konzertliste.de/, and listing here http://www.konzertliste.de/liste.php

One radio program I got aware from this list is from Radio Bremen named "Globale Dorfmusik Live". Many reruns of concerts from the late seventies and eighties (along with actual ones), and many american and english artists.
The concerts are now being rerunned at Nordwestradio, and can be found here:

http://www.radiobremen.de/nordwestradio/sendungen/globale_dorfmusik_live/index.html

Die Daten für den Bildungskanal BR-alpha, das Regionalprogramm SR Fernsehen sowie für alle Radioprogramme der Landesrundfunkanstalten bei ARD Digital:
Satellit Astra auf 19,2 Grad Ost
Transponder 93
Downlink-Frequenz (GHz) 12,2660
Symbolrate (MSym/s) 27,500
Fehlerschutz (FEC) 3/4
Polarisation horizontal

At the moment they are on holiday, so no live music at the moment. They will return in September, 9th. In the meantime you can explore the calendar at the top of the page to get an idea what they aired in the past. A good suprise in example was a concert by Snakefinger of Residents fame.
http://www.radiobremen.de/nordwestr...dorfmusik_live/kalender194_date-20120604.html

Have fun!

He really drove DP during their glory years. "Hush" we can never forget, but "Kentucky Woman," less of a hit and more underrated is a tour de force of his style. Lotsa fun, too! R.I.P.....
