Howdy folks, I sort of forgot i had this piece in the context of Quad as it is actually my garage unit and I mostly use it to play CD's through or listen to satellite radio. Maybe somebody here can fill me in as to the other capabilities of this heavy old beast. (you know power, Quad features, rarity, that sort of thing.)

Heres a picture:

Heya Ken,

I believe thats QX, not GX

Here is a link that provides some great info about your reciever:

Your reciever has built in SQ quad decoding, but from what I have read, all the Pioneer units are on the low end of SQ decoding ability. Still could be fun.

It also has a built in CD-4 demodulator. This will allow you to play CD-4 quadradisc records if you have a CD-4 compatable cartridge with a Shibata or line contact style stylus!

I believe the "Oscilloscope" on that is a mechanical do-dad that shows you the 4 channel levels (not a real Oscilloscope). Does the "scope" still work on that? Those are still pretty cool!

In my opinion you should bring it in, clean it up and experiment with it. Should be a fun toy! You can throw any old stereo reciever in the garage to take it's place.

You can also use that with your nifty Pioneer Q8 players, along with Q8 recorders and Q4 decks :)

Yeah kenny you're right, it is Q not G. (Cant read that small stuff anymore at my age.) Thanks for the specs. The meters do still work and you are again right they are just level meters. If I knew where to send it off I'd get it tuned up but that sucker weighs about 60 lbs so moving it or shipping it is kind of a pain especially from the great white north. Luckily when I start it up it helps to warm my garage.
