Record company folks don't know the difference between a DVD audio-only disc and a DVD-A. After all, they only make them. duh!

I greatly enjoy the SACD's. I've owned the Q8's & DTS discs since they were released. I'd gladly trade advanced res for the low-fi Q8's, although I'd love to hear the CD-4's and/or Q4's.

..and it's not just the record companies who are stupid/misinformed bastards over all these format gaffes.. even Peter Gabriel said the reason why the Boxset of "So" didn't have a 5.1 mix in it was because there are TOO MANY different surround music formats to choose from..!! How f***ing dumb is that..!?!?!?

Not worth it at this point for me, but if the price drops and if the Audio DVDs are actually true DVD-As then I might consider...

I've already pre-ordered and am not backing out at this point - mainly 'cos I never did get the SACD versions when they were available.
At the time it never occurred to me they would go OOP so fast.

Yeah, that WAS a surprise, when friends who didn't pick up copies right away tried to order them and found they were no longer available less than TWO years from the release date. I mean, back in the day, even the worst bomb of an Lp would be in stores for at least a year before a label would delete it, and many that didn't do much business lingered around quite awhile unless the company went under. Very strange that, what with the group's fairly high profile and the bonus tracks, these didn't stay in print. Might have been the SACD factor? But you know the collector's rule: BUY IT NOW, it may be gone tomorrow. True more often than we want. And of course some stuff seems to linger forever.

ED :)

A few interesting screenshots from the Box Set website. Note how it shows the DVD-A logo along with Dolby Digital for the 5.1 DVDs. Wonder if these discs will have MLP 5.1 and DD 5.1 like the RUSH titles or if they will only have DD 5.1. It's anybody's guess at this point. Also, they incorrectly labeled the DVD-V discs 12-14 as DVD-A when they clearly aren't...

I wonder if there is a stereo dvd-audio option or if surround is all that is offered.

This is over $100 more on amazon.com, compared to amazon.uk

I know it's been commented before but why oh why could there not have just been a option for just a Dvd Audio box of these albums as well as the complete set,4 cd,one cd as options for this release?
Even though I have them on Sacd I would have bought just the Dvda's if that had been a choice and if they would have been fairly priced.
For someone that had never bought one Moody Blues release and they wanted to get all the releases in one package then this is a good deal.
Not so good for someone like me who already has the Moodies on Lp,Cd and Sacd, I can't justify getting this whole package again just for the Dvda's, if they in fact really are Dvda's.

If it has the DVD-Audio logo, then they are clearly MLP DVD-A's with DD 5.1 tracks for the unwashed.

Chicago Transit Authority's Quadio Rhino release has the DVD-Audio logo on both the disc itself and the back side of the OBI strip. It isn't. It's only a DVD-V release of the old Quad mix.

Perhaps the Moodies are DVD-A's. I hope so. The marking means it probably is DVD-A, but it isn't proof positive.

The Chicago was on a different label. Universal was successful in making actual dvd-audio Rush disks so I'm pretty sure we're safe with these. What I find odd is that no stereo mix is mentioned. Maybe they are leaving off the stereo mix as an excuse not to include In Search Of The Lost Chord in high-resolution, as if the CD is good enough for stereo.

As you're likely aware, the expanded 5.1 Moodies on SACD also didn't include Lost Chord. It was a CD-only two disc set.

I never bought it (couldn't find it on store shelves when all the other Moodies SACDs were plentiful.. then got lost along the way!).. but I think the 2-CD Deluxe Edition was one of Universal's "SA-CD's by stealth"..!?

I have also ordered these so will be returning them immediately if they are not as advertised along with a letter explaining why they are returned (Trades Descriptions act, Sale of Goods act etc)

I guess it's the old "Audio DVD" vs. "DVD-Audio" confusion/misunderstanding/balls up again.. and these will turn out to be DVD-V, despite being labelled as DVD-Audio with the associated DVD-A Logo, etc... :(

And if this is correct then I will return it - simples.
