This has been postponed until Jan. 2014. I ordered the Police title but it will be awhile until I receive it since I pre-ordered a Capital Cities CD along with it to get the extra 600 points deal.

Interesting. I wonder if Richard Carpenter did further remixing of the songs for this new "2013 remaster" as he did with Al Schmitt for the 5.1 SACD Surround Sound version.

A bunch of excellent titles coming out in March 2014:
    http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/search/music...14/?fmtSacd=on

If we could get Richard Carpenter involved with that Brothers In Arms release maybe we would get the 5.1 included.

I expect I'll buy Brothers In Arms on both SHM SACD and platinum SHM, so I can have something to play in the car (recordable CD copy of the platinum SHM). Good thing I didn't buy the MOFI... I almost did about a week ago.

Was Richard Carpenter with Dire Straits? I'm still playing the Multichannel SACD of Brothers In Arms here - excellent !

Richard did mention in a recent interview that the master tapes used to do the 5.1 surround SACD have been destroyed in a fire.

Anyway, previously announced March 2014 SHM-SACD releases have been postponed until April 2014.

Thank you for the info on the interview soundboy

quite a lot about SACD in there, Richard certainly is a fan of the format and of surround..

..bittersweet to hear him say he would have re-done all their stuff to Surround SACD "on his own dime" had he known the multi master tapes would end up destroyed..

..plus hearing Universal wouldn't/couldn't run him off a copy of the SACD, they gave him a duped DVD instead, which he thought was ridiculous ("like, what am I gonna do with it!?")..

..and only 7-10 days to remix all those tracks to 5.1!? What the..?! Amazing!! All those years ago the SACD got delayed and delayed, one presumed by all the extra time taken to remix etc but clearly not! RC had all the info of what was on those tapes in his head, so I guess that sped the process up.

    great interview!

also.. he says there's nothing left in the archives to release..!? Wow! That's a surprise! Interesting he makes no mention of the upcoming SHM-SACD (and says "shame SACD died" at one point) so I suppose that indicates he isn't involved in the SHM-SACD at all, unlike the surround remix SACD 10yrs ago.

I interpreted that as there are no unreleased Carpenter songs. Not that there are no more Carpenter releases coming.

I do wonder about the delayed release of the SHM-SACD from March to April. Is it due to limited production capability at Sony's pressing plant in Japan?

I see that Hong Kong Universal Music is now back supporting SACD with a new release on March 15 that will be pressed in Japan. On top of that, Japan Sony is pressing J-pop SACDs for Japan Warner Music as well. Then there's rumored HK Warner Music SACDs to be released in April as well.

I don't know about limited SACD pressing capabilities. The SACD labels continue to issue new ones at an ever increasing rate!

Yes, lots of stereo SACDs being released but I'd like to see a resurgence of MultiChannel SACDs

We're certainly seeing Multichannel SACDs continuing to arrive from labels like Channel Classics and PentaTone that are doing brand new DSD recordings and Multichannel SACDs and now Multichannel DSD Downloads.
On the reissues, Audio Fidelity is looking at Multichannel SACDs as a possibility. Stay tuned.....

Believe it or not, but the 2 Sex Pistols ones are worth grabbing too.
NMTB is a different master to the one used for the Universal Blu-Ray Audio release - do not ask me why but they do not sound the same to me. The BDA has more power in the low end and the SACD sounds a little harsh in the upper mids and some of the effect delays are different too (most noticeable on the echo repeat in "Bodies" being lower in the mix), and a lot of other differences lead me to think they are different masters.
Moving on to "Swindle", we can tell right away that it's gone back to the original UK release (initial copies had a different running order, slightly different sleeve art & "The God Save the Queen Symphony" did not have Malcolm McLaren rasping away all over it telling everyone what a clever chap he was) and this has not been heard since the 70's, and has never had a digital release before so well, well worth grabbing whilst you can.
    Oh well, whatever - nevermind.

I was expecting to receive GFRR Shinin On today but looks like it spent too much time in customs, so maybe Monday.

update: Spoke too soon. USPS just dropped it off.

Amazing packaging. The mini-LP inside has those 2 stars cut out with blue and red transparent material attached to the back. Maybe the original vinyl release was like that too. Don't know.

That's $50 vs. $20 so which you buy depends on how important this album is to you.

I like these boxes the new SHM SACDs (and platinum SHM CDs) come in. They look sort of like reel to reel tapes on the shelf. 5" reel size.

New boxes for the SHM-SACDs? Are these a change from the digipaks the SHM-SACDs used to come in ?

Yes. See the picture.. comparing a 5" reel box and SHM SACD box. They are the same thickness but the SHM SACD box is a bit taller.

Interesting. Can't say that any of my SHM-SACDs are in a box like that!

Just picked up "the other Gaucho SACD", the Single Layer SHM-SACD edition from Universal Japan.

This edition features "DSD transferred from analog master tapes by Manabu Matsumura at Universal Mastering Studios" in Japan
rather than the Stereo transfers by Elliot Scheiner on the original Gaucho Stereo SACD from Universal Music in the U.S.

I did. I was curious about the reviews over on sa-cd.net saying the SHM-SACD edition was the preferred way to listen to the album in SACD Stereo.
And after comparing the two, I agree - the SHM SACD does indeed have some added detail when compared to the original SACD's Stereo Tracks on my system.

I also have Gaucho as a Stereo DSD Download from Super HiRez. So I'll have to do some comparing there as well.
Hmm, I'm becoming a Gaucho collector now...!

  30. Thanks Quad Linda thanked for this post
