I've just been watching the latest Transatlantic Sessions on BBC4 TV . A fantastic mix of folk music with musicians from the USA/Canada/UK/Ireland, playing together. The DVDs of the series are great, and some series have been released on CD.

Blimey, you got me with that one. I read "Transatlantic" and I thought this:

I said, "boy the BBC is more hip than I ever expected"... alas, it was just a buch of gits blowing air into empty beer bottles and plucking a banjo.@:

:D

For your info Junior. :)

And, as I don't believe you will have access to BBC Iplayer

I've actually seen Aly Bain, the main man of the Transatlantic Sessions waiting at a bus stop in Edinburgh where he lives, having moved from his birthplace of Lerwick on the Shetland Isles. Well that's my claim to fame anyway.

Finally! I find somebody here with a sense of humor!

Hi monarchee, :)

Anything from Scotland is OK in my book. If I ever win the lottery; I will buy a Castle in Scotland and install central heating and have jam sessions every day!

"playing music from Scotland, Ireland, England and North America".... Hmm, this may be the very first time ever that all those people can actually get along at something!

Side note: As a lifelong guitar player I have tried to play a violin many times, each time an epic fail as my fingers are too big. The guy in the photo(Aly Bain?) seems to have fatter fingers than me. I have no idea how one can play the violin like that. It is great that you met him. What did you guys talk about?

Do they actually play inside castles like in that photo? That would be very cool. :phones

Notice I said "saw him". I never spoke to him.

Your problem is you're trying to play the violin Dennis. Aly Bain plays a fiddle. ;)
Watch this series of videos to see Aly play with Nicola Benedetti. Folk meets Classical.

http://www.violinist.com/discussion/response.cfm?ID=24485 They don't seem to have the complete TV program which I recall watching.

You'll also see that they do play in castles occasionally. :)
