Is Vanessa-Mae the first Olympic athlete to release a SACD? (she competed for Thailand in the just-finished Sochi Winter Olympics)

how's the surround mix on this one soundboy? do you also have the other EMI Hong Kong MultiChannel SACDs (the 3 x Sarah Brightman's & the Maksim disc)?

I enjoyed the performances on the Sarah Brightman Multichannel SACDs. But wasn't wowed by the sound quality. It was OK.

It's more of a gimmick for Vanessa-Mae's SACD, in my opinion. When I listen to this disc, I do it in 2 channel stereo.

I do have the Sarah Brightman SACDs. No Maksim SACD.

What part is the gimmick - the Surround Sound mix or the SACD release itself ?

Glad you like it too Mr.Moura (y) there's an Era Best Of SACD too which is a nice little package (SACD + DVD-V) I'd say is worth a punt to any QQ-ers who enjoyed The Mass disc.

Mr. Blue, the ERA Multichannel SACDs are a treat. The music is a bit off the beaten path. But the Surround mix is excellent. Definitely a Multichannel SACD favorite here !

Me too! I've never been able to find a copy (and I've been searching - in earnest - over 5 years) though it does exist as I know a couple of people who have it.. unlike several discs listed at sa-cd.net like the La Oreja de Van Gogh's (x 3!), Will Tura-De Mooiste Droom, etc. which must be vapourware since no-one I know in the SACD hardcore has ever seen them let alone own them (and those guys have everything..!).

Are these the hardest to find Multichannel SACDs? If so, I'd suggest adding The Cardigans Multichannel SACD "Long Before Daylight" to the list.
Might also be interesting to rank them based on the asking price for the SACDs on Amazon or eBay - or in some cases where there isn't even an asking price available! :)

When it comes to Multichannel SACD rarities, one of my favorites is this one by the All-Girl German Pop Group No Angels. It is a mix of pop and swing. Features the songs "Funky Dance" and "All Cried Out".
Definitely worth nabbing if you can find it !

Not intended as a definitive of the rarest by any means, it's just those Surround SACDs (non-Classical) I've found it impossible to find for decent money, or in many instances simply impossible to find at any price.

The Cardigans is an interesting one.. for me, it falls into the category of being hard to find at a decent price rather than hard to find.. it's more sought after than just about anything else on my Top 20 (there are admittedly some pretty obscure titles in my list of 20) but I don't know if Cardigans can be considered ultra rare, I know of too many people who have it. Moreover, a few QQ members have mentioned in this forum they've owned or still own multiple copies of The Cardigans, which isn't something that I've ever heard any member or SACD collector say about the likes of Barbara/L'aigle noir, Elisa/Lotus, Zazie/Zen, etc., these are titles that literally come up once in a blue moon, others such as the La Oreja de Van Gogh discs even less so, never in my last few years of seriously searching in earnest for these things.

asking prices tricky, around half of these have never come up on Amazon/eBay to the best of my knowledge.

It is a great one! I would never have known about it without QQ Member ABMickey mentioning it in the "Listening To Now (In Surround)" section of this forum.

a quick check on sa-cd.net and prices on Amazon have gone up markedly since I got mine, which wasn't very long ago, plus availability there has diminished significantly too, when I was looking for it there were quite a few copies dotted around the various countries - not so much now.. though it's an ever-changing situation of course so anyone looking for it now has to actively keep looking for it so as not to miss out.

While we're talking Multichannel SACD rarities, another to highlight is the other Helmut Lotti SACD "Pop Classics in Symphony".

Like his "A Tribute to the King" SACD, this one features a very lively Surround Sound mix, a full orchestra and a host of pop classics.
Also included is a duet with UK pop star Cliff Richard singing "Danny Boy".

New copies are hard to find these days. But there are some used copies out there from Amazon.De and Amazon.Co.Uk at reasonable prices said to be in "Very Good" condition if you're in search of this one.

I have 2 of these rarities but only occasional played. Scorpions are not my Cup of tea. The other one I could not remember anything...so I should gave them another spin.

there is also a very rare and expensive SACD from a german band who are singing in a cologne dialect (which is hardly to understand also for a german guy):

BAP -Sonx

here are the link to the german amzonas
