One of my favorite Hybrid Layer, Multichannel SACDs from Sony Japan is by The Gadd Gang. This is a Jazz group led by drummer Steve Gadd (who co-produced the album) and features Jazz stars Cornell Dupree, Eddie Gomez and Richard Tee. The album features both Smooth Jazz and some lively Jam Sessions on "Watching the River Flow" and a Medley of "Honky Tonk and I Can't Stop Loving You".

It was originally released as a Stereo CD in 1986. The Hybrid Multichannel SACD takes an unusual approach - Tracks 8 thru 14 are on the Stereo CD layer and feature the original CD mix and mastering. However, on Tracks 1 thru 7 we have a more recently created Multichannel SACD and Stereo SACD edition of the album from a 2007 remix and remastering session. The Multichannel mix is excellent - it's a very lively and immersive mix that uses the 5.1 sound field very well.

If you're a Surround Sound fan, this is an album to get. Best of all, the 5.1 Multichannel SACD is in stock and available from several music stores in Japan via Amazon.Com starting at $34 and from CD Japan at around $25. Check it out - it's easily one of the best Multichannel SACDs from Sony Music Japan!
