Like many of you, I own more CD's than any other format. My main system alone has six different devices which play them. I listen in the car, at home and even have a player in my "smoking lounge." So, what are you listening to? Please, no other formats or even DTS and Dolby Surround CD's.

Here's what I've been listening to over the last couple days:

R Crumb & Cheap Suit Serenaders Japan CD. I had this when it was a new release LP. If you like old time jazz and blues, this record is a must!

Folk Hits of the 60's (Shout Factory compilation)

Johnny Winter (studio CD from CBS' Woodstock Experience 10 CD box)

Rickie Lee Jones Got this as a new release. Haven't played it in a long time. Forgot how truly great this record is!

Volunteers - Jefferson Airplane (studio CD from CBS' Woodstock Experience 10 CD box). Although this disc is that album, it also includes the beginning of JA's set at Woodstock. IMHO, album is good, though uneven. Their Woodstock set seems sloppy. Could it be possible that they were in an altered state of consciousness?!?

Autumn - Don Ellis Orchestra French CD People no doubt wondered, "what the hell is that?" as the sounds of this came blaring from my convertible. It's 7/8, 15/16. 15/32, etc. That's what it is. Featuring a young John Klemmer and produced by Al Kooper. Glenn Miller is turning in his grave over this stuff. Music that's way too hip for the room, even today.

Marco Minneman -EEPS, he plays everything on it. Not sure yet, need a few more spins. Probably for musicians than general public...

Start The Car clips am hearing seem more hard edge than 3rd St...........

Well Snood got into Jude Cole during my 20s - so that included my Crowded House & Graham Parker (never grew out of), Jude Cole , Rembrandts and Toad The Wet Sprocket phase..........amongst many others.

That View from 3rd Street Jude Cole CD is in my blood.

Oh wow, now Snood is remembering the joy of the 1st Crowded House CD and where Snood was when first listening :friday:

Don't get me started on Graham Parker's "Mona Lisa's Sister" toooooooooooooooooo

21 at 33 - Elton John German CD Another one that I hadn't heard in years. After a couple crappy albums, Elton came out with this. Truly, he was on his game again. A couple years later, he did I'm Still Standing. Little Jeanie, Two Rooms, and White Powder are among the many standouts here. Some great guests, including the Eagles and Bill Champlin. You need it.
21+At+33+46.jpg

My Labors - Nick Gravenites UK CD At 13, one of my childhood friends told me about the band his cousin was in signing with Columbia. He bragged that they were going to be huge. Oh syre, bigger than the Beatles, I quipped. The band was Electric Flag, which featured Mike Bloomfield, Buddy Miles, Barry Goldberg and Gravenites, among others. Although I laughed, my jaw dropped when I heard A Long Time Comin'. That album is a must for anyone who loves horn rock, blues, soul and jazz. Out of 20,000 albums in my collection, A Long Time Comin' makes my top 10. After Flag broke up, Bloomfield & Gravenites played live at Fillmore. Several of those tracks became Live at Bill Graham's Fillmore West (1969.) Several other tracks from that gig became most of this album. Three tracks from the Fillmore album were added to this issue as bonus tracks. Although the original album is a bit uneven, it has some great Fillmore moments. The bonus tracks are great, as well. Bloomfield may have been one of the best rock/blues guitarist ever. IMHO, only Hendrix and Jeff Beck were/are better. Gravenites is one of my favorite vocalists.

The Jan & Dean Anthology Album I had this on 2 LP's when it first came out. The LP's have a much nicer booklet. Some of what's here is mung, IMHO. Still, the best tracks here are as good as anything the Beach Boys did. Dead Man's Curve (life imitates art), Ride the Wild Surf, The Little Old Lady from Pasadena, and of course, Linda. Listen to it with your top down. Car top, that is.

YEAY! :D I was just talking about 21@33 over at the SHF this morning! :wave

1980 - 21 At 33 (his 21st album, released when he was 33 years of age... big hit was "Little Jeannie", the usual eclectic mixture of styles for an EJ LP.. rock, pop, country, etc.. some weird & wonderful guest musicians including Richie Zito, Steve Lukather, Victor Feldman, Jim Horn, David Paitch, Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Timothy B.Schmitt, Bruce Johnston, Toni Tenille.. basically about half of Toto, half The Eagles and some of the Beach Boys! I love this album, its very much overlooked/underrated but at least half of it is excellent.. "Two Rooms At The End Of The World".. "White Lady, White Powder".. "Chasing The Crown".. "Sartorial Eloquence : Don't You Wanna Play This Game No More?")

IMHO, one of EJ's very best.

Snood mainly listened to Jude Cole in my 20s during my Jellyfish, Graham Parker, Crowded House, Rembrandts & Toad the Wet Sprocket Phase. Still listen to the first 3 frequently

Start the Car coming out 2 years later after View from 3rd was probably why lost touch with Jude  from the clips it seems it might be a bit more edgier and less radio friendly. it is in the mail tho on way to me.

cool! hope you like it! to me it seems like a continuation of and fairly similar to 'View'...a mix of rockers and ballady type....when you get it let me know what ya think :)

The Ariola Years - Sons of Champlin UK 2 CD Perhaps you know Bill Champlin from his 20+ years in the group Chicago. He sang lead on Look Away. He also wrote the hits after the Love is Gone for Earth, Wind & Fire and Turn Your Love Around for George Benson. My vote for the most soulful white vocalist and one of the most overlooked artists in rock. This collection is all three albums the Sons did in the mid-seventies. Admittedly uneven, there is easily an album's worth of KILLER tracks here. A cult band very popular in the Bay area, the Sons deserved much more recognition than they got.

Brother to Brother - Gino Vannelli Japan CD One of my all-time favorite albums. Although it features his biggest hit I Just Wanna Stop, there are better tracks here. Not a bad one in the bunch. I've owned this on LP, Canada 1/2 speed LP, US 1/2 speed and dbx LP. If you have the capability, get the dbx version.

Shot of Love - Dylan From '81, one of his best albums, yet one of the most overlooked. It received mixed reviews when released, yet several reviewers have come to embrace it as a very good album. Some great guests, including Ringo, "Duck" Dunn, Jim Keltner, Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar, William D. "Smitty" Smith, Benmont Tench, and Ronnie Wood.

Right now it's "Narrow" by Soap&Skin. It's a 2012 release but I just recently heard her stuff for the first time, and I'm enjoying it thoroughly. It's quite dark and dense, maybe with a few shades of Nico.

SoapAndSkinNarrow600Gb.jpg

Haken - The Mountain
the singing is sometimes heavy influenced by Gentle Giant, and the music is great. Perhaps you should give the video for "Cockroach King" a view on youtube, it's hilarious, and really good!

A Lonely Grain of Corn - Uncle Bonsai Perhaps you've heard the track Penis Envy. Terri Hemmert at WXRT in Chicago gave it heavy rotation. Two beautiful women and a guy with a higher voice than theirs. He writes most of the songs. This is folk music with a very bizarre twist. An album that gets under your skin big time.

CSN - Crosby, Stills & Nash German CD Together for eight years, this was the second studio album for the trio. (Deja Vu was, of course, with Young.) Though not as radio friendly as their first or Deja Vu, this album has depth and maturity that the previous ones don't. IMHO, not a bad song in the bunch. The artwork was better on the LP: a textured cover with a non-textured photo glued to it. A terrific album, with every track a winner.

The Age of Steam - Gerry Mulligan A tour-de-force with Tom Scott, Bud Shank, Bob Brookmeyer, and Harry "Sweets" Edison. Not a bad track in the bunch. All relatively short, well rehearsed tracks that COOK! K-4 Pacific gathers speed and volume as it rolls along. One of the best tracks by anyone, ever.
