That is so cool that Mike is getting the pub...maybe one day when he hits it big... I can boast that I used to PM him on this forum:)

Aw, schucks. Really, it's miraculous the thing got made and I'm overjoyed that there are those who have checked it out and found something to enjoy.

Being away from home (sometimes unexpectedly) roughly 1/3 of my military career has killed (over and over) my best chances at getting my music out there, locally at least.
Still, I'm fortunate to have been involved in the bands and projects that I have and I'm glad some usable multitracks came out of it. And it's not just about my music either. I've been a guest on others' projects and I like that just as much. I'd love to see some of those projects get the surround treatment someday. I have planted some seeds.

Maybe I'll get my s*#t together someday and figure out how to license a song or two for movies or something. That kind of thing is where the money is, I hear.
Short of that, I'm happy that I could be involved in a "for QQ, by QQ" album. That is very, very special to me. And it was especially cool to see the album in the hi-res poll the other day. Thanks everyone, for that.

Giovanni Benedetto Platti (SACD)

6 Trio Sonatas

Armoniosa

Lovely performance of this chamber music from the late baroque era. Ambient surround mix is warm and natural.

R.E.M. - Out Of Time DVD-A

I think if I had to recommend one of these R.E.M. discs it would be this one...the songs and mix are just outstanding (Yes, I actually like "Shiny Happy People"). It's so cool that ES decided to take another crack at "Losing My Religion" instead of porting the weaker mix from the "In Time" comp.

Automatic and Document are each a close second, but for me this is the standout of the series.

Every surround fan should have at least one disc from this series- I think any artist that reissues their entire catalog in 5.1 deserves our support.

Serge Gainsbourg - Casino De Paris (1986)

A live concert so I wasn't expecting more than some audience in the back. But once in a while there are some musical surround panning effects. I was pleasantly surprised. Other than that, the sound is excellent. Recommended if you're into Gainsbourg.

Must search out Lyle before they're all gone given the very wordy of mouth....I passed at the time. As I did on the full set of REM discs, but now I am going through all of those, latest is Green. I played the heck out of this on a cassette when it came out floating around the Mediterranean between flight ops, and later on vinyl. Still love the album and this mix seems to be more active in the rears than most of the other REM discs. Maybe Elliot felt it did it justice.

Dave Mason- 1974 S/T album (Q8 Conversion)

This is phenomenal! Love the covers of "All Along The Watchtower" and "Bring It On Home To Me".

A two-fer SACD with this and "It's Like You Never Left" would make for an amazing D-V release.

They could also tackle "Split Coconut", as it hasn't had a discrete release yet, and perhaps even unearth the rumored quad mix of "Let It Flow".

Music of the Americas - Pentatone's newest DSD Surround Sound release with the Houston Symphony.
Features music from West Side Story, An American In Paris and two more selections.

Music of the Americas - Cover - 450.jpg

Music of the Americas is the latest DSD release from PENTATONE featuring the Houston Symphony conducted by Andres Orozco-Estrada. It's available at the Native DSD Music store today in DSD Stereo - or for a couple of dollars more - get the album in DSD Stereo and DSD Multichannel with our special ST+MCH option.

Pentatone says "The Houston Symphony and Andrés Orozco-Estrada present an album that comes closer to their cultural roots than ever before. Dance rhythms, jazzy harmonies, bright colors, city sounds; everything one associates with The Americas can be heard on this recording.

With George Gershwin’s 1928 piece An American in Paris, Silvestre Revueltas's Sensemayá (1938), Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story (1961) and Astor P. Piazzolla’s Tangazo (1970), it brings together composers from across the twentieth century, all connected by their belonging to the Americas. Moreover, all of these composers reconfigured the barriers between classical and popular music, combining them to produce a sound that illustrates their home region. In choosing these particular works, Houston Symphony and Andrés Orozco-Estrada have aimed not to cover the entire continent but rather to provide ‘impressions’ of America and to ‘illuminate’ as many colors in the music as possible."

Conductor Andres Orozco-Estrada tells us more about the album's origins and his inspiration for the music in the YouTube linked below.

Enjoy the video - and then drop by the NativeDSD Music store and get a copy of the album in DSD. You will be glad you did.
