New SACDs continue to be released. This weekend, the format crossed the 10,000 mark for titles released to date according to the www.sa-cd.net database.

Another point related to that is that at least over 60% of those SACDs released are Multichannel SACDs.
Wish it was more than that, and wish more were Pop/Rock Multichannel SACDs, but I am so happy for what Audio Fidelity has been doing to keep multichannel SACDs alive! :)

Although the SACD format get's "beat up" on this board by some posters...they have carried the torch for hi rez discs after DVD-A tanked..if it wasn't for that format hi rez would have died years ago...I'd love to see blu ray carry the torch from this point going forward...a least for another decade...with 4k blu ray coming later this year the hope is the format can be kept alive...all that storage capacity and machines that are reasonably priced...no reason it can't survive for a decade...if vinyl can survive...no reason blu ray can't...and with the continued problems with internet speeds and capacity...downloads won't see the growth companies are hoping for...

Actually SACD discs were outselling the competing DVD-A format when both were launched. So SACD has been carrying the torch for hi rez for sometime now. As for BD Audio, the jury is still out on that format.
It is worth noting that we already have many more Multichannel DSD Downloads available (703 to date) than BD Audio discs (349 to date if you count both Stereo and Multichannel). Time will tell what the future looks like.

To be fair, there were far more SACDs manufactured around the world than DVD-As, so to say that SACDs outsold DVD-As is a bit of an understatement.

One can also wonder if Sony had stayed with the DVD Forum's decision to standardize the industry on the DVD-A format and not forced the issue with their own format how the HiRez and Surround movement of 1998-2004 would have fared.

That being said, it is good that despite it's founder bailing on the format, it continues to survive via the small, independent labels like AF. The AF SACD program carries a lot more weight with me than the many thousands of obscure SACDs in the sa-cd.net database.

And it's also the case that the top selling titles on SACD were selling quite a few more units than the top selling units on DVD Audio. Which led to the abandonment of DVD Audio some time ago by most participants in the format.
It is nice to see SACDs continue to be issued - to the 10,000 title milestone we have today. And the emergence of DSD Downloads will keep things rolling in 2015. More fun ahead. :)

There are a lot of reasons behind the failure of both formats in the music industry, many of them have nothing to do with the content or mechanics of the discs themselves. These factors have been gone over countless times in this forum and are mostly based in corporate politics. The intent of this thread is to celebrate a 10,000 title mark of the SACD format, not to rehash the old format wars of the last 20 years.

The whole topic of DVD-A vs SACD should never have been started in this thread in the first place. We are here to celebrate surround music, not debate the carrier. IF you start a contested topic, you must be prepared to have it fester.

Well that's nice I suppose,

Butmost of the DVDA titles are mainstream pop-rock-prog titles,

And more importantly mostly all dvda titles are in multichannel!

There are more SACDs that are not in the database. e.g HK & Japanese released titles.

i'm apologize but what is this excitement all about?
not really matter amount of titles, if selection (beside classical repertoire), is very narrow and doesn't seems to getting any better over all this time.
