Finally bought the DSD64 download of Santana...and yeah....it sounds great.

My first DSD Multichannel purchase.

I like music that I can relax to so this is perfect for me. UK New Age artists Anima have over a dozen albums but this is the only Multichannel one (so far). Their website offers many samples of their work. This is not as eclectic as Dead Can Dance, maybe more in the realm of Kitaro's music with chant like vocals, but it still speaks to me. Purchased from Native DSD Music. Love the store. It's easy to use and you can purchase individual tracks if you want. I wish this could be done with Rock and Jazz albums on the Acoustic Sounds website. I would be buying more music if that were the case.

The music is rather slow so although the mix is discrete, there is no extreme motion in the sounds as it is meant to be soothing. This is a blend of electronic and acoustic instruments with plenty of reverby/wavy effects and sound textures which I find it suits DSD's sound clarity very well. The first track reminded me of Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond's intro and I kept expecting Gilmour's guitar to come in at any time. So if you want some really smooth Chill-Out Ambient and New Age-y music, this is for you. There some nature sounds mixed in with the music at times, so for anyone who's not keen on the idea, maybe listen to some samples before purchasing.

It just makes me want to hear all the Dead Can dance albums in Multichannel.

Harmonia Mundi has provided an early release of their upcoming album Philip Glass: In The Summer House in Stereo and Multichannel DSD at Native DSD. It will be out on Stereo CD (not SACD) later this week.
It features violinists Angela & Jennifer Chun, Violins with composer and pianist Nico Muhly in performances of two compositions each by Glass and Muhly in a minimalist setting.

"An Early DSD Release from harmonia mundi international! In The Summer House is a new album from violinists Angela & Jennifer Chun, Violins with composer and pianist Nico Muhly. It features performances of music from Philip Glass (In The Summer House, Mad Rush) and Nico Muhly (Four Studies, Honest Music).

ArkivMusic says "The music on this recital was specifically written or arranged for duo violinists Angela and Jennifer Chun. It highlights the personal and professional connections between Philip Glass and Nico Muhly, a longtime colleague and admirer of Glass's work. Glass's miniaturist works, Mad Rush and In the Summer House, create a maximum effect when paired with Muhly's minimalist Four Studies and Honest Music."

This is a DSD Exclusive release, not available on SACD. It's a special bonus for our listeners. You'll enjoy the wonderful performances on this DSD recording."

The debut album by singer/actress Meghan Andrews and bass player Marco Ferrero on Blue Coast.
It features 10 songs recorded live to DSD 256 Stereo (4x SACD, 256x CD bit rate).

Nice acoustic pop. Very much like Joni Mitchell.
On sale through May 7, 2016 at Blue Coast Music.

Meghan Andrews - Blue Coast Special Event 43 - 400.jpg

Meghan Andrews | Special Event 43
3 New Songs Added! Introductory pricing through May 9, 2016. It is rare for a talented songwriter to also have the technical ability to perform in a way that gets the listener's heart pumping. A few of the greats-- Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, and John Lennon -- come to mind, and Meghan Andrews is well on her way to the top.

With delicacy and power she performs songs from Townes Van Zant ("Waiting Around to Die") and Alice in Chains ("Would") along with 8 of her own compositions. Special Event 43 was recorded live at Blue Coast Studios by Cookie Marenco to DSD 256 without headphones or overdubs.

The excellent new recording Raizes by Breno Viricimo and Friends in DSD 256 Multichannel on the Just Listen label.
A mellow, acoustic recording of Brazilian and Samba music. Instrumental and vocal.

Recorded live through an Analog Console to DSD 256 Stereo and Multichannel (4x the SACD data rate).

"Per Eklöf says "The Sound Quality is fantastic!!! Absolutely world class. The atmosphere is just there and the idea of DSD really shines. WOW!

I am so glad there are alternatives to the consumer mixes out there, i.e. where dynamics is what it is, dynamic. I just love it and with good gear you can really enjoy the feeling of ”being there”.

Any chatter or musician interaction is part of enjoying this kind of music I think. Kind of live recording feeling. The ”Jazz at the Pawnshop” atmosphere is something to strive for. From my point of view."

Four Four Three: The Music of Terry Riley with the Ragazze Quartet, Slagwerk Den Haag and Kapok on Channel Classics.
It is a DSD Exclusive, not available on SACD but available in Multichannel and Stereo DSD (up to DSD 256) and DXD.

This is a new Surround Sound Multichannel DSD recording with the musicians arrayed in a circle, providing a full 360 degrees of sound.
The result is a very immersive, middle of the band mix. Recommended.

"Producer and Engineer Jared Sacks: I would like to tell you about a special project that is being released this week of music by Terry Riley. Ragazze Quartet collaborates with Slagwerk Den Haag: a percussion ensemble of 4 players, and Kapok: a jazz trio. Hence the title ‘Four Four Three’.

On setting up the Riley ‘In C’ for 8 players, it was clear that we should record this 40 minute work in complete multichannel, which resulted in the group playing in a circle with the microphones in the middle. This has created an amazing audio spectrum when listening in full multichannel. One is literally sitting in the middle with the audio of all speakers surrounding you.

Turn down the lights, have a zip of wine to relax you, and let the music of Terry Riley give you a complete audio experience."

Jazz At The Pawnshop 2 in Stereo DSD 128fs. Now available from 2xHD-Naxos - transferred from the Analog Tapes.
Recommended for Jazz fans - and fans of the classic Jazz At The Pawnshop albums.

"Jazz At The Pawnshop 2 is the second volume of the great Jazz at the Pawnshop event which was recorded in December 1976 over two nights at the intimate Pawnshop Jazz club in Stockholm. So named because a Pawnshop was previously housed at this site. The sessions produced some of the best recorded and most famous audiophile recordings in Jazz music.

It's an Analog recording that has been transferred to Stereo DSD 64fs and DSD 128fs by 2xhd. It's now available at the Native DSD Music store along with the original Jazz At The Pawnshop and Jazz At The Pawnshop - Late Night albums. If you buy the DSD 128fs edition from Native DSD Music, you will get the DSD 64fs edition at no cost.

Chris Mosey from All About Jazz reviews the Jazz At The Pawnshop sessions and albums by noting "On December 6 and 7, 1976, in a small Jazz club called Stampen (The Pawn Shop) in Stockholm's Old Town, Swedish sound engineer Gert Palmcrantz recorded a group of leading Scandinavian jazzmen live, trying to get "the tight, harmonious sound of the records of my childhood." There were no sound checks. The musicians just started playing with no one knowing what would be next on the agenda until reedman Arne Domnérus called it.

The result has often been hailed as the best live Jazz recording ever. Amazingly, for a small country such as Sweden, the record sold more than half a million copies and still sells, at a rate of around 4,000 copies annually. "

Bar del Mattatoio by Seigen Ono and Friends on Stereo DSD 64 download from Saidera Mastering.

An Analog to DSD 64 transfer that features a variety of musical styles - Jazz, Tropical, Experimental and Classical.
Excellent sound quality and an enjoyable listen. Recommended.

"Ono is a very talented musician and pioneer in the world of DSD based in Japan. He not only performs on the album but also composed the music and was the album’s producer, recording engineer and mastering engineer! It’s an Analog Recording that was transferred from Analog to DSD by Seigen Ono at his Saidera Mastering and Recording Studios.

Bar del Mattatoio takes you on a musical journey that has elements of jazz, classical, tropical, and experimental music along the way. Singer Caetano Veloso describes the album as “a unique experience. Seigen Ono places us in a landscape that overflows with sensuality, sweetness and melancholy. It is easy to imagine ourselves in a hotel in a small European town during a jazz festival overhearing a band playing outside the town square."

Mahler: Symphony No. 3 from Ivan Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra in DSD 256 Surround Sound.
Another winning performance and recording by Jared Sacks at Channel Classics.

Cover - 450.jpg

"The latest installment in Ivan Fischer's near-complete Mahler cycle for Channel Classics Records, the Symphony No.3 renders the myriad beauties of this most wondrous of symphonies into an unforgettable experience. No matter what resolution DSD files you download — I listened in DSD128 — you will discover the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Cantemus Children's Choir, Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks, and alto Gerhild Romberger portrayed in stunning sound, with pounding percussion, cutting brass, tinkly triangles, and celestial children's voices laid out before you in a seamless soundstage.

This, however, is anything but another of those "audiophile recordings" that satiates you sonically while leaving you hungry for musical substance. Channel Classics' superb sound is all of a piece with a performance so satisfying that it deserves a place alongside the myriad hallowed interpretations past and present."

Here's one for Classical Music fans. A new Christmas music album "Imagine Christmas" from Sono Luminus in Stereo DSD 128.
It features 12 tracks each arranged and performed by a different Sono Luminus artist, duo or ensemble.

Imagine Christmas - DSL92216 - 450.jpg

"After over 2.5 years in the making, Sono Luminus is proud to present their new holiday album Imagine Christmas. It features 12 classic Christmas songs performed by the top artists at Sono Luminus.

This is a DSD Exclusive, not on SACD release. It will be available on Stereo CD soon. But we have it for you in Stereo DSD 128 and DSD 64 at the Native DSD Music store today. (If you buy the album in DSD 128 Stereo, you can download the DSD 64 Stereo version at no added cost).

Sono Luminus tells us "This album includes all of your favorite Christmas tunes like Frosty the Snowman, Silent Night, Joy to the World, Christmas Time is Here, and so much more!

The songs are performed by Sono Luminus artists including Ensemble Galilei, Bruce Levingston, Matei Varga & Irina Muresanu, Jasper String Quartet, Ronn McFarlane, Cory Hills, Kathryn Bates, Caleb Nei, Cuarteto Latinoamericano & Lydia Lewis, Stewart Goodyear, Skylark Vocal Ensemble, and ACME: American Contemporary Music Ensemble!

Note the three striking elements on this record, from the minute you press play. The first is the quality of the performances. These are top-level musicians bringing their same superlative artistry to Christmas favorites that they do to a Schubert quartet or Taverner score.

The second is the sterling quality of the recording. If there is a sonic equivalent to sipping a hot toddy while curled up before a roaring fire, it is Sono Luminus’s peerless mixes and captures.

Third – and in every way as essential as the previous two – this is a kaleidoscopic collection of styles and interpretations of beloved songs and carols that keeps me eager for the next number. If you’re like me, four tracks into just about any single artist’s Christmas album, I am ready to move on. With such a fetching variety of artists and approaches, I find myself going top-to-tail on this one."

Revisiting The Goodman Years by the Teddy Wilson Trio. Another excellent DSD 256 Stereo Download from 2xHD-Storyville Records. Not available on SACD.
Recommended for Jazz fans!

"Revisiting The Goodman Years is the latest DSD 256 release from 2xhd Mastering - Storyville Records. It features famed Jazz pianist Teddy Wilson with Jesper Lundgaard on bass and Ed Thigpen on drums as they play the music of Benny Goodman.

This is an Analog Master Tape to DSD 256 Stereo transfer by René Laflamme at 2xHD using the Merging Technologies Horus Analog to DSD 256 Converter. It's not on SACD but it is available at the Native DSD Music store in DSD 256, DSD 128 and DSD 64. If you buy the DSD 256 edition of the album, the DSD 128 and DSD 64 versions are available to you at no added cost.

2xHD-Storyville tells us "Teddy Wilson bears the proud title of Jazz Musician pure and simple. That is why the music on this record is of such a high standard.

By the time he joined Benny Goodman (at age 23 in 1935) Wilson had mastered aesthetic perfection and he has allowed music to speak for him ever since. Whatever elegance means, Teddy Wilson is it!

These words from Benny Goodman and the Jazz textbooks that have typecast his individuality with words like ‘urbane’ ‘polished’, ‘poised’ or ‘impeccable’ designate his royal place in the hierarchy of great jazz pianists. Teddy Wilson’s originality has surmounted every trend, both as a soloist and as a catalyst for all the greatest musicians of this era.

Wilson is elegant, he is never bland. His subtlety never neglects intensity. And his sense of poise never interferes with his sound of surprise. Teddy Wilson is, most of all, a pure musician."
