Damn!! LUTE - we need your help on this one...lots of classical....but the prices!! Whoa... :yikes
Hey Buddy! I completely missed this thread. Those classical SACDs are not as discrete as TACETS, but the following are still very good:
I would be all over that Mahler Symphony no.3 conducted by Zinman. In fact, Zinman's whole Mahler symphony cycle is worth having.
If you're interested in Wagner, "Hartmut Haenchen - Wagner: Rheingold" and/or "Die Walkure" are a good place to test the waters...especially at that price.
"Olli Mustonen - Beethoven: Piano Concerto No.3" also has a piano version of Beethoven's violin concerto.
The music is not typical harpsichord repertoire, but "Olga Martynova - Everything You Wanted To Know About Harpsichord, But Were Afraid To Ask" offers first-class playing and recording.
"Frieder Bernius - Mendelssohn: Herr Gott, dich Loben Wir" is a nice choral work by Felix Mendelssohn...
"Hermann Max - Naumann: Betulia Liberata" is another excellent choral work. This time from the Baroque era.
"Karin Winther - Valkommen till varen/ Welcome To The Spring" is pretty choral singing of traditional Swedish songs.
The others are a bit modern and abstract.
About..."David Stahl - Bernstein: Candide", of course Candide is a popular work, but this recording is a bit odd because it was recorded in Germany and there is German narration during the performance.
And a WARNING... "Konrad Junghanel - Handel: Teseo-Opera in 5 Acts" is NOT an SACD. It believe it's an ordinary CD. Confirm before ordering.
