The guy on Facebook's SACD Group that subscribes to multiple copies from Audio Fidelity as a Platinum Club member received his first SACD copies (Member No. 17) 2 days ago.

Close Encounters just showed up in the mail today from importcds (I cancelled my AF membership)... it seems to sound better than the Classic HDAD.

Have any of you guys here actually sat through Cruising..?

If so, can you please tell me WTF is going on half the time..!?

(I mean, there were, for me, many WTF moments during the movie.. )

The movie, or the SACD? I haven't seen the movie. Is it out on Blu-ray?

The movie.. I just checked and the more recent Directors Cut is only on DVD as far as I can see, though it appears you can watch it in HD on iTunes.

The old Warner LaserDisc was on my shopping list for the longest time back when I was buying LDs but it proved impossible to find then.. still I got to see the movie in the end and just didn't get it, at all..!

Adam, Cruising WAS dreadful. Film Critic Leonard Maltin gave it 1/2* and called it a distasteful, badly~scripted mess and went on to say : "Gay world presented as sick, degrading and ritualistic!" The only 'head~turner' in Exorcist~director William Friedkin's mess of a film should've been actor Al Pacino for accepting this ridiculous role. And a curious choice for an AF Stereo SACD when there are so many other worthy contenders like the brilliant and haunting Gustavo Santaolalla score for Brokeback Mountain.

Could be....?? I picked up a copy of the UK/PAL Laser on eBay around 1/2 an hr ago (couldn't resist for a tenner).. and then I flicked thru and realised I have the DVD already. haha..!

Obviously, someone's CRUISING for a BRUISIN'

Supposedly, there is an upcoming (yet unannounced) Director's cut of Cruising slated for a BD~V release (probably Region A). Perhaps a 4K remastered Criterion release might make sense of this mess of a movie, although, highly doubtful!

Did you read that on the bogus http://www.blu-ray.com site? I guess if anyone puts it out it would have to be Criterion.

Has anyone played the SACD?

Roger that, Cupboy.

And I would assume that ONLY AF Platinum members will have the 'privilege' of owning the Cruising SACD. My advice, For the $30 list they're charging, one would be better served to buy the brilliant Criterion 4K BD~V remaster of Gus Van Sant's "My Own Private Idaho" with, by far, River Phoenix's finest performance and a 'gay~themed' movie which at least has a point of view without offending anyone!

A few years ago I paid a visit to Devil's Tower which is a major part of the movie. You can walk all around the entire thing. Takes about an hour. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

Oh that is interesting, Ralphie.. from what I read earlier it was scanned in at 2k for the DVD release (Friedkin apparently did stuff to the colour timing, though not as extreme as the hatchet job he did to his version of The French Connection Blu-ray.. that was more devastation than restoration!) I've got a BDP somewhere with a remote control zone hack so I might just get this (and never watch it) to go with the DVD (I never watch) and the LaserDisc (I'll never watch) :D

The Cruising SACD is now available from Elusive Disc - along with Close Encounters.
So everyone has the opportunity to own both. No membership required.
