It says 25+ hours of recorded material. At $700 that means $28 per hour. OK, so not cheap, but a single SACD with as much material can cost $30 plus, so I actually think the price is not excessive per se. The real problem for the non-hardcore fan is the inability to cherry pick the material they want. Personally I WILL want it all, but I am sure many here will not...

I am Drooling (and Raving) to see what if any live Syd Barrett era material is included.

I know this is expensive, but I'll sell the set because all I want it for is the Quad and the 5.1 mixes. I'll enjoy those so much and I'll play them so often that it will be worth every bloody penny. I've bought the two Immersion sets and The Division Bell set for the Blu-ray discs so this is a no brainer for me. Costly? Hell yes but worth it? You betcha!

Mr. Gilmour has publicly stated the he always makes sure that Syd material is included with any Pink Floyd package to insure that royalties flow to his estate and heirs.

The Grateful Dead offered a collection that had no surround discs AND one version was a USB drive for about the same price as this Pink Floyd offering...but as I think about the Chicago Quadio Set which recently sold for a delivered price around $88...it brings a huge smile to my face...if it's something you really want...then go for it...tomorrow is promised to no one...there are several interest free plans(pay pal credit...amazon store card)that can give you a year to pay...where there is a will...there is a way...

Some of the Pink Floyd fans won't care for those mixes and will be very happy to get the set for much less than it goes for.

Tell me guys, honestly, if they put these four mixes on one disc and charged $200 for it, would you go for it? This is how I see it.

Yes, we've been begging for these to be released well now that they are, I'm not going to start crying over the price tag. I'm buying the audio equivalent of a Bentley so yes, it'll cost me a pretty penny, but these will fill many an evening with wondrous delights.

Still, this set makes the King Crimson Super Deluxe Box Sets look like a financial cakewalk in comparison.
Burning Shed are selling the "Larks' Tongues in Aspic" and "THRAK" box sets for around $98 each right now, while the "Starless" and "Road to Red" sets are selling for around $140 each right now.
It really makes me want to send a big thank you letter to Declan Colgan (and others) for offering us so much and yet also keeping the price down at a pretty reasonable cost.
Pink Floyd could learn from King Crimson in this matter…

    Surround yourself with the best.

    Here's to 2017!

All this talk has got me so excited that it just dawned on me, the format hasn't been listed (or has it) for the quads and 5.1

Will they be like Immersion's Blu-rays or perhaps DVD-A or SACD?

Also, would love to hear Bike in 5.1 (or even quad) just because the ending, IMO, begs for surround. Actually most of Syd's stuff seems like it was in surround in his head at the time of the recordings.

What are we guessing what they mean by "2 historic Quad mixes" then? One would be Atom Heart Mother. AFAIK the Meddle Quad was never released, so maybe Pompeii?

Unfortunately all the multi-tracks from the early albums were lost.

I'm guessing they will be on both Blu-ray and DVD-A like the Immersion sets.

One of the Quads in this set is previously unreleased, as are both of the 5.1's, afaik.

No, because one of them was previously released. What they mean by "historic" is "from history", not new.

I just spent considerable money on new tires and other car upkeep outlay. I mean I spent near a grand ok. But then again buying a box, stripping out the surround material, and then yes flipping it might be an option.

To your point, the current Floyd archive team has established a track record of high quality releases that are arguably definitive for most fans. I've bought Dark Side probably 15-20 times over the last 15-20 years for various reasons (mastering, surround mixes, various vinyl pressings, etc), and when I look at the Immersion edition sitting on my shelf or when I listen to any part of it (or when I play marbles... j/k), I think to myself "I don't think I'll ever feel compelled to buy another copy ever again."

So yeah, this this is expensive and I agree that it would be awesome if it was as affordable of the King Crimson boxes. But we're getting some really amazing stuff here, and it sounds like the surround mixes - our primary motivation here - are just the tip of the iceberg. I'm going to start saving.

Ahh.. probably.. though they could both be "historic Quad mixes" (maybe as in both vintage.. or of an historic nature, even?) maybe the press release could've been better worded, like "one previously released historic Quad mix" and "one previously unreleased historic Quad mix"..?

Ah who cares about all that anyway!?
Lets look at what we're getting in this set from a surround point of view, from what we know so far..
    2 x new 5.1 mixes,
1 x previously unreleased (yet still historic ) Quad mix,
1 x previously released historic Quad, no doubt scrubbed up and sounding better than before..!

    Wow..

Bugger the expense, count me IN..!!

This is FANTASTIC news... and while I usually pre-order anything in surround that is remotely interesting, regardless of price, this is one where I'll finally break my tradition... and wait til after it's released, Clint Eastwood does his research, and a reasonable deal can be found. But one way or another, I WILL HAVE IT!
"One Quad to rule them all, One Quad to find them; One Quad to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."
"The Quad is what gives a Sound System its power. It's a sound field created by four pulsing speakers that surrounds us and penetrates us."

Ramon noodles are not that bad. One can jazz them up with other things too. If one is a smoker, then try cold turkey for a few weeks.

I'm going to list my original German quad AHM on ebay, and maybe that extra WYWH quad platter as well. See if I can recoup a little there. Quad Q8s of WHWH are still hot on ebay as well. I can get the cash, I just need a week or two.
