So it looks like I'm hanging on to my 2010 Collector's Edition too, because it not only has the Carnegie Hall concert from 1970, but it has a great 45 minute video interview with Ian Anderson about "Stand Up".
Too bad that's not included here, but I'm guessing there wasn't enough space on the DVD.

It still is sad that the Tull reissue series dropped Blu-Ray so quickly after "Aqualung", but I do have to say that I got over the lack of lossless surround audio by the time "Benefit" came out and just accepted that this was the way it was going to be.
These releases don't shine quite as brightly IMHO as the ones from the likes of King Crimson, Yes, and (especially) XTC but this will still be a phenomenal release.

A lot of you have been clamoring for a remixed "Living in the Past" album, and even though I still don't think that will ever happen, this release brings you one step closer to being able to make your own edition yourselves, now that we will have discrete remixes of "Living in the Past", "Driving Song", and "Bouree".
Plus, it appears that the entire "Stand Up" album has been remixed (i.e. no upmixes) so that is also something to be thankful for.
This would be my most anticipated release of the year if it weren't for the King Crimson box set, "Tales from Topographic Oceans", and (best of all) "Skylarking".
My, what a lovely haul we are in for come October/November!

    Question:
Anyone think that the deluxe Aqualung release lost money because it was too deluxe, i.e., expensive and that poisoned the waters for the subsequent releases?
No blu-ray, no lossless surround etc?
While I lucked into the pre-order importcds Aqualung for $75, even that was too expensive for people who only wanted the blu-ray.
I agree with RT, they're very good but could have been better.
The SW DL of Aqualung is better than the 2-channel on the BD not by a huge margin but better nonetheless.
Perhaps the POV of Anderson and the people putting these together is that DVD-V is "good enough" and the sales will be the same no matter what so why go the extra kilometer.

Thank you, John! Like I have already said before, I resigned myself to the fact that the Jethro Tull releases would stay as DVD-V only several years ago, but it's still nice to know there's people involved in these releases like you who still fight for those of us who care about having the best quality available.

Yeah, I've wondered about the potential for future BD reissues. If it happens, I'll probably bite. Hope they cram them full of everything that was on previous releases and any fix-ups that've reared their heads between releases too (like the multitracks for Simple Minds' Promised You a Miracle that rtbluray posted the video about from their Facebook page).

Then there's the ~100GB capacity of 4K discs for future release. Doubt that'll happen for a while though (phew, not really looking forward to the new TV/player/receiver/cabling required for the 4K upgrade).

Timing and sales are everything in this business.
When "Aqualung" was remixed and released in surround in 2011, EMI were beginning to be on its last legs.
They took a gamble with big sets for the likes of "Aqualung", "Dark Side of the Moon", and "Wish You Were Here", and similar sets with CD, DVD, and Blu-Ray all bundled together were not repeated after that, and then EMI went completely defunct at the end of 2012. (Now the Jethro Tull catalogue falls under Warner Music.)
It is very possible that EMI did not break even on the Super Deluxe Edition of "Aqualung", and so when "Thick as a Brick" came around, they took a different tactic.

First off, they separated out the vinyl from the CDs and DVDs, which was a great move IMHO, but in the process, they cut Blu-Ray altogether, and it has not made a comeback since then, even with the catalogue move from EMI to Warner Music.

Most know that Blu-Ray costs a lot more to author and replicate than DVD does, so they probably are making back more of their money by not bothering with Blu-Ray altogether, but it just means that we don't get the best quality because of that decision.

    Surround yourself with the best.

I don't know how much it costs to make those hardbound books vs how much it costs to author and replicate Blu-Ray discs, but more people can use DVD over Blu-Ray (still) and everyone can enjoy the books, so it seems obvious to me that the artist and label are trying to reach as wide of a consumer audience as possible with these sets.

    Here's to 2017!

Amen. I'd rather have a great Steven Wilson 5.1 remix in lossy DTS than a lousy remix in a hi-res format. However, I do agree that the differences between the hi-res Blu-ray audio formats and straight DTS are audible. Comparison of CTA in the Chicago Quadio Blu-ray set vs. the DTS from several years back was an eye opener for me.

Now that's one thing I am looking forward to doing, is compiling a SW remixed compilation of Living in the Past. Sure there will be a couple adjustments such as Wond'ring Aloud, Again compared to the originally released Wond'ring Again. I can always edit the song but maybe not - why not leave WA,A as is?!

Regarding Carnegie Hall, what's to say that can be saved for Benefit which is potentially going to be getting the hardbook treatment, seeing that Stand Up is appearing to be going that route already. And there are the two tracks from Carnegie Hall that will need to be inserted into the Remixed compilation too in Dharma for One and By Kind Permission Of. And if they can locate the multi-track tapes for The Witch's Promise too seeing as that track couldn't be remixed previously, here's hoping they can find them. And pity the multi-tracks of the last three tracks from the 'Life Is a Long Song EP,' still appear to be unavailable.

Which leaves This Was. I do think we'll probably get a 50th Anniversary Edition in 2018 to be released the same year as Heavy Horses. And maybe the DVD can include Peter Mew's stereo remix from the 2008 Deluxe Set too. Then of course the three songs from that album A Song for Jeffrey, Love Story and Christmas Song will ultimately complete the remix compilation as a result. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Now on a seemingly related note, I may have already mentioned this I've already gone and done something similar with The Pineapple Thief's 3000 Days compilation, where I've been using the remixed tracks from the reissued albums in the band's catalogue over the remixed tracks in the actual compilation. Now there is still one more track that needs to be included in there which is currently unavailable and that is the song 'Private Paradise,' from the debut album. Seeing as the remix of Abducting the Unicorn (soon to be renamed 'Abducted at Birth') has yet to be released, that song will most certainly complete my compilation. Here's hoping it will be soon, as Bruce did mention it was next on the list following their brilliant new album 'Your Wilderness.'
