Reading about the latest release of Sabbath's Paranoid which includes 4 CDs.

From Amazon: "PARANOID: SUPER DELUXE EDITION includes the 2012 remaster of the original album, in addition to a rare 1974 quad mix of the album folded down to stereo, plus two concerts from 1970, from Montreux and Brussels. The four-disc set comes with a hardbound book with extensive liner notes featuring new interviews with all four band members, rare photos, and memorabilia, a poster, as well as a replica of the tour book sold during the Paranoid tour."

Wondering why they didn't release the quad mix on it's own instead of converting to stereo. Anyone know if there will be a separate quad mix available on SACD or some other format?

There's already a thread about this new super deluxe edition here: https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/fo...-Warner-is-coming-16-11-11&highlight=paranoid

As for why they folded down the Quadraphonic mix to release it on a stereo CD? I don't know, but all I know is that record labels do really stupid things sometimes…
You can get the Quadraphonic mix on DVD as part of this 3-disc set: https://www.discogs.com/Black-Sabbath-Paranoid/release/1764689
But honestly, I would advise against buying it (as would most members here).
The DVD makes the Quadraphonic mix sound terrible! (n) :(

I did a search before posting and didn't find anything, thanks for the link to the post.

What's up with these Sabbath releases that are basically bootleg quality? Seriously awful bootleg quality in fact!
And the surround mix folded down to stereo and not included intact?!?!
CD format in 2017?!

This is where management is supposed to step in and pull a release.

There is a copy of the surround mix from a Q4 reel that is shared online (as it is out of print and not currently for sale in intact condition) that is the best copy you can get at present unless you already own a Q4 release.

The best copy of the stereo mix I know of is the 2010 SACD release. As much as I don't like to support SACD, this is the one to get. Again, no surround mix included though. Long out of print.

The 1996 vinyl remaster is also very clean. This and the SACD are very close. They both sound like a better copy of the master tape than the original pressing. The SACD is free of brick wall limiting and portable device style mastering in general and could very well be a flat clean copy of the master mix.

There were some CD "remasters" in 2009 (again, CD format?!) that featured truly crushed distorted bootleg sound. Either true bootlegs (in spite of the official looking logos and catalog numbers) or truly intended for lo-fi portable devices.

Turns out this bands albums are quite hard to find clean copies of these days. That's just wrong and bootleg quality releases like the above don't help!

Just a heads up about searches. IMO, don't use the search function within QQ. It's horrible (my opinion again)
When I want to find something specific, I simply use Google. Something like "Black Sabbath Super Deluxe Quadraphonic Quad". I'm sure there are better ways, but this is how I do it and generally can find what I'm looking for. :)

I am not certain of this by any means, and I don't endorse it in any way, but I wonder if the fold down wasn't done to provide a stereo version of the quad mix, as it has different song versions. IIRC the Quad versions of Fairies Wear Boots (and Rat Salad....maybe? Its been a while...) are very different from the stereo versions. My Quad introduction to this album was a Q8. The Q8 version of Tull's Aqualung was also like that, with a different version of Wind Up. At some point an Aqualung CD reissue with bonus tracks was released and it included the quad version of Wind Up, but reproduced in stereo. I'm not sure if it was a mix down though.

I agree that the best surround version of his title is the transfer of the Q4. Its a sad day when the fidelity of a deluxe reissue like this can be so obviously upstaged by a 40 year old archived version based on outdated technology. Long live Quad RTR. And thanks to all of you vintage RTR/Q4 quys out there who keep these classics from going extinct.

Huh...when I click Ryan's link, it doesn't show any contents. ??
Here's how mine shows with the Ryan's link, but says it can't ship to my location, few details as of yet.
Why do they put this stuff up half-arsed?

I was going to make up a 5 disc set that would piss me off the most if I saw it just to be a sarcastic little asshole. And it's exactly what peterzach posted there for disc 1-4. The 5th would be a DVD of that Paris 1970 show but in worse quality than we already have. Maximum insult to the quad mix + another copy of a show every Black Sabbath fan has a copy of. Really nailed it there!

That is weird. On the desktop I see the same as everyone else. One my phone ...
Disc: 1 8 tracks, remasters from 2013, 2014 and 2016
Disc: 2 8 tracks, Stereo Quad Downmix
Disc: 3 8 tracks, Live at Casino De Montreaux, Montreaux, Switzerland 1970
Disc: 4 9 tracks, Live in Brussels, Belgium 1970

I have just looked at my 2009 Universal/Sanctuary release of 3 discs. Disc-2 is a DVD marked as the 1974 Quadraphonic Mix and indicates it is in 5.1 STS (!!!!) and 2.0 LPCM Stereo as shown on Discogs "Paranoid Deluxe" this cost me about £20 when it was released. So I assume this release will undoubtedly have vinyl and a book. I would love it to have a proper Quad release for that price, but time will tell!
