OK, there is an Amazon listing for a Black Sabbath - Paranoid deluxe box of 4 CD w/book, yet the description claims "5 discs".

Normally, I wouldn't get too excited, but then again can you say quadio?

That would give me a reason to say SQUEEEE! :)

Hopefully this will happen and it would be sweet if Warner were to dig into their hard rock Quads. I think many would jump on these.

As long as it really has the Quad Mix (or some surround for that matter) and as long as it sounds better than the ghastly 2CD/DVD edition released by Universal (UK) in 2009, then I am in! :)

(But still, $40 for a multi-disc set like that is not a bad price at all, no matter what's actually in it.) :)

It'd be nice if it had a proper quad transfer. Even if the master tape is in bad shape, they could at lest obtain a mint quad reel to reel and do a transfer with pro gear.

Yea, you know it's really weird but I wonder what went wrong with that transfer in the quad dvd ?

Weird because that very quad CD-4 disc is perhaps the best and quietest quad discrete disc I own from Warner !! I think I lucked out with a super CD-4 pressing with "Paranoid".
And that DTS DVD , which of course I have.......well just kinda not impressive when I listen to it.

I totally can only imagine what the album Paranoid would sound like with a great Quad mix presented....WOW! Particularly, all of side 2 is made for Quad...

Electric Funeral
Hand of Doom
Rat Salad
Fairies Wear Boots

Whoever it was musta mistakenly (more than likely in blissful ignorance! :music ) ran a worn out CD-4 record thru a Sony SQA100 (or something) and they went down the pub and forgot about it.. or went home and had dinner with their wife/girlfriend/partner/housemate/roomate/pet/dined alone and totally never gave it another thought.. and if their line manager or producer or whoever questioned the quality of the finished product the next day they probably said "well it sort of did some stuff in the surrounds sometimes.. ok it sounds rea;;y rough but then its an old Quadraphonic record, I mean, how good can they be, right?" :ugham:

..when I stop to consider how many people, even some industry pro's (yes! even some of those folks who should know better! :yikes ) seemingly care so little about the preservation of and respect for vintage Quads & 5.1 mixes some of us here hold so dear, I can and do get my panties in quite a knot over it sometimes.. but then I go down the pub and forget all about it too, just like the bloke who did the abysmal transfer of that shitty Paranoid Quad record for Sanctuary/Universal I am absolutely sure does not give a solitary speck of shit about it! Humorous rant over.. Back to work.. :beer2

Unfortunately, I just found this on Bullmoose...and it doesn't say anything about Quad, or surround of any kind.

Gene, take it from me my friend, its truly scrumptious (found a superb DTS from discrete source years ago but it went bye bye's when my laptop did.. so not heard it in yonks).. really hoping either I can lay my hands on a pristine CD-4 record without having to take out a bank loan.. or this upcoming set that haikubass discovered will indeed include the Quad in beautiful discrete surround fresh from the master or a dub of the domestic Quad reel.. (4 fingers crossed...! ttfn! :D )

B@ST@RDS..!!! :yikes

What do you suppose is on Disc 2..?

If they'd included running times we'd be able to work it out (I think..)...

Yeah, it certainly doesn't clarify exactly what disc 2 is. So, I suppose there is still hope. Though honestly, the price on Bullmoose is only US $30. Would they really sell this, and a Quad for that price? I wouldn't think so....

Possibly not.. although when that lame-o UK Sanctuary Paranoid Deluxe (with the STS DVD-V no less!) came out over here in Blighty in 2009, it was like £15.99 in HMV when I got mine.. only 3 discs yes.. and different label, country of origin, time and circumstances.. but you never know... ;)

(Keeping hopes for this having the Quad - and in decent quality - spectacularly low ..otherwise I will only be disappointed.. again.. and go into meltdown.. again.. )

Here are the details as from musictap, another bizarre choice, they put a fold down mix but not the actual quad, very weird:

Black Sabbath is one of the great Heavy Metal bands of all time. That’s not just my fan-based assessment but rather an accurate announcement accepted by most. From their first album, issued in 1970, to their well-received Paranoid, released the same year, Black Sabbath has since provided the entertainment that fans required. And they still do it today. Their last album, 13, was released in 2013 to good sales (for today). And although Black Sabbath has 19 studio albums to date, Paranoid still stands as the band’s most recognizable work.
On November 11, Rhino will reissue Paranoid in a 4CD Box Super Deluxe Edition that will also contain a book. Here’s what we know about the upcoming classic set:
The album will not feature new remastering but will offer the 2012 remaster of the album available in a Deluxe Edition released that year. In addition to that, the rare Quad mix of Paranoid will be included as a fold down to Stereo. To round out the four CDs, there will be two concerts made available from the Paranoid years. One will be an 7 performance track set from August 31, 1970 performed at the Casino de Montreux in Montreux, Switzerland. The other CD will feature a 9 performance track set from Brussels in 1970.
The hardbound book is a high point and will include extensive liner notes and new interviews with all of the original members. Plus, there will be more photos, detailed credits, and memorabilia, all associated with the release of one of Rock’s most influential Heavy Metal albums. Also included will be a poster, and a cool replica of the tour program from the Paranoid tours.
I like it all!

Ugh....what a fucking waste. Backstabbed again. They ought to fold down the stereo to mono while they're at it, that makes about as much sense as a stereo fold down of a quad mix.

..oh, "for Pete's sake.. (not shooting the messenger, thanks for saving me any further "agonising" over this one Peter..!) :upthumb

(you realise I will have to throw down some serious coinage on a pristine CD-4 now.. ;) )

if the people at Warner/Rhino or whoever cannot lay their hands on the Quad masters for these things (first we have news of an impending Bette Midler/Divine Miss M. Deluxe Reissue with no Quad at all.. and now this Paranoid Super Deluxe with a fold down of the Quad to Stereo.. WTF!?!?) why don't the label reach out to the people here who have the Quad Reel and could furnish them with a conversion in the finest quality going..????

FUCKINGLOADASTUPIDSHITTYBOLLOCKS.

Because no one wants quad or surround. Why else would no one own a 5.1 surround system, and all blu rays and DVDs come with stereo only soundtracks?

It's a fact! People will even show you pretty charts and graphs to prove it.

Oh man.. I don't know what to say.. I could fucking weep some days for the shitty way Quad & 5.1 music get treated by the major labels time and again.. its too often like its an afterthought if its included.. and of course as we know to our detriment its most often not included at all anyway even if a Quad or 5.1 mix exists..

its like the Diana Ross Last Time I Saw Him Deluxe (the Quad of which I only just heard last night for the very first time!) a fold down of a CD-4 or whatever is absolutely bloody pointless, isn't it..?? I mean, I can see some point in stereo of a matrix thing, it might just have its encoding still intact and have a slim chance of doing something when decoded.. oh dammit I don't have time for this, another damn shame.. another woeful missed opportunity..!!
