Brian, maybe you could shed some light on AP pre orders. I have these Lightnin Hopkins discs pre ordered I think four years now.

What are the reasons for posting a pre order so far in advance ? Is it that they wait for enough pre orders before they press or other reasons.

Mark, as an example, this SACD title has been listed as a pre~order on Acoustic Sounds website for about 10 years and ironically, it IS available on SACD from Hong Kong: http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/16817/Radka_Toneff-Fairytales-Hybrid_SACD

And sometimes out of the blue, Acoustic Sounds releases SACD titles lickety split. My rule of thumb when ordering from them is to wait until the title's in stock.

MoFi is usually sluggish with release of their SACD titles. Upcoming MoFi SACDs can take literally YEARS before they're 'actually' released.

Again, they're both first and foremost VINYL reissue companies with SACD released as [IMO] an 'afterthought!'

I too have been waiting on pre-orders from acoustic sounds for years. I also suspect that they use pre-orders as a business case for pressing titles. I can understand the logic but as a customer it is somewhat discouraging to see the roll-out of vinyl.... and then wait to never hear its sacd companion...

On the other hand...I would need a few more lifetimes to listen to all those pre-orders if they suddenly arrived...

Trying to license and then release albums for reissue is a long and arduous process in many cases.
Having been involved in the process, and seeing the many reasons why a planned reissue is delayed or stopped along the way, it amazes me that any of the reissues make it to the finish line. :)

When it comes to announcing dates, one of the reasons that Audio Fidelity now waits until the last minute, is to avoid the many inquiries (and complaints) they would receive about titles made earlier in the release process.
At the end of the day, it's a company decision about how soon - or late - in the process they do this.

Listening now to "Living Stereo" Belafonte Sings The Blues. Very excellent at 62.5db, seems to be the perfect volume. A 1958 fantastic recording.

Someone at SHF claims to have spoken to Marshall this week and was told everything is fine. But it has been quite a while since anything came out (November?) which is glacial compared the two per month they used to release.

I did recently post that even Analogue Productions and MoFi's SACD STEREO output [save for a few very choice pre~orders like S&G and Jimi Hendrix] has likewise been VERY sparse. Are they gearing down on SACD production, altogether?

It's probably way too late in the game for this discussion, but it's ashame that ALL US~based reissue companies never embraced BD~A, which could've been domestically replicated, as a replacement for SACD.

BTW, this SACD title was way under the radar for me as I just noticed that Acoustic Sounds just released this TRULY magnificent title [FINALLY!!!!!!] on Stereo SACD: http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/132216/Rob_Wasserman-Duets-Hybrid_Stereo_SACD

If you've never heard this audiophile treasure [even the RBCD sounds phenomenal], you're in for a REAL TREAT.

A Brief Sample with the GREAT late Lou Reed:

And, another cut with Ricki Lee Jones:

Last, but not least, Aaron Neville and Rob Wasserman performing Stardust live:

I have that one Ralphie...that's what I was listening to when I posted...I agree...given the source...it's the best that it's going to sound...and the newer title will probably sound the same..

Cannot believe Acoustic Sounds is NO longer discounting the original Steppenwolf Stereo SACD....must be in short supply. Today, I received the 3D/2D version of Black Panther in a gorgeous Steelbook case delivered from the UK for roughly the price of an AP Stereo SACD. Ridiculous!

I seldom even look at Acoustic Sounds anymore...their sales don't cover many discs...most are price protected...and their threshold for free shipping is not competitive...especially when you can get the same discs at Music Direct for a discount AND only need $49 for free shipping....and right now they are the only outlet that has the Steppenwolf Gold SACD...because it's an AP disc and they don't release it to other outlets for awhile...no problem...I'll just wait and get it elsewhere...no hurry...but I do think the Steppenwolf(self titled)SACD did sell well(y)

ImportCD is listing the AP Hendrix SACD of Axis: Bold As Love as a pre~order at a GREAT price [$35 list] and until tomorrow [June 15] are still offering 10% off all orders utilizing promo code Take10 https://www.importcds.com/axis-bold-as-love/190758197920

So, far NO pre order for Hendrix's Are You Experienced @ ImportCD.

Contrary to ImportCDs listing, Axis Bold as Love will contain both the Stereo and MONO mixes on 1 SACD.

Already ordered from Music Direct at $27.99 DELIVERED...same with Are You Experienced....importcds isn't a great bargain for me anymore...after they charge tax and shipping...the 10 percent discount is gone...on this order it would be $2 more...plus with Music Direct I get a little better packaging...and it's pretty quick for me...and I know you are aware of this...you can reach them by phone...nice guys too...importcds is contact by email...which is ok...the reason Are You Experienced isn't listed yet is there is no date for the release yet..."late summer" on acoustic sounds and it's their(AP) release...

I likewise took your advice Clint and pre~ordered both Hendrix Titles from MusicDirect. We should have them by August 3rd. Hear ya on ImportCD but on my last order with them I did make out like a bandit and they still don't charge me Sales Tax....and my order arrived within a week in perfect condition.

I listed that title as I'm sure there are some who didn't take advantage of the MusicDirect sale price on the Hendrix discs.
