Email from Dan Barrett, webmaster for GG's home page, to the On Reflection List:

Snapper Music, the label that recently released a 22-CD set of Steve
Hillage's music, is in the planning stages for a large Gentle Giant
boxed set. The preliminary proposal is:

- All 12 original albums (no decision yet on the mastering)
- Up to 18 discs of live performances, emphasizing unreleased concerts
- A coffee table-sized book, signed, including rare pics, foreign record sleeves, etc.

This is all preliminary, but the band is on-board with the project,
and Snapper is shooting for a mid-2018 release.

And you can help. Do you know of particular live recordings that you'd
like to see cleaned up and released? In the near future, I'm going to
run a formal survey (probably using www.surveymonkey.com) asking
people to nominate their favorites. I'll also ask for ideas to make
this boxed set as high quality & desirable as possible. (Or feel free to
shout out ideas now.)

See Snapper Music's other boxed sets at www.snappermusic.com.
The Hillage set is at Madfish | Steve Hillage .

DISCLAIMER: Snapper approached me to help with the planning, and it's
possible they will compensate me for this help. I do not have any
financial interest in the sales of this set, however.

Done. My answer to question 8, about what would make you purchase it, was: "Basically 5.1 Hi-Res mixes of the studio albums on Blu-Ray, I'm unlikely to without them"

Everyone should take this survey (found on SHTV) to let these people know that we want as many discrete Gentle Giant surround mixes in high-resolution as possible! :)

The survey amazes me...pitched in to insist on some 5.1. I would like some demo/alternate/outtake material too, not just live, to augment the original albums.

Under, "What other items would be important to you," I entered:

Steven Wilson remixes of original studio albums in stereo and 5.1 surround sound (prefer lossless on Blu-ray or DVD-Audio); flat transfers of original stereo and quad master tapes for each original album (prefer lossless high-resolution 24-bit/96kHz on disc or download); lossless high-resolution 24-bit/96kHz content where possible and appropriate (on disc or download); download code(s) for lossless CD- and/or high-resolution files (where possible/appropriate) of all audio content included in the box set; multitrack transfers of one or more songs (on disc or download) for home mixing
And under, "Please list anything else that would make this boxed set attractive to you," I entered:

"Sympathetic," high-dynamic range mastering for all mastered content; LP-size reproductions of the album sleeve art for all original albums (see recent King Crimson box sets for reference)
Please feel free to copy and paste for your own use.

I did it too, highlighting that my main interests are high quality high-def surround mixes of their studio albums with true discrete surround sound by someone like Steven Wilson, not just added reverb in the surrounds which I find terrible. Also that I'm interested in live video blu-ray concerts too. I also stated that to me, it's all about the music, as I have little interest in trinkets and memorabilia, and would prefer a more simple, affordable package.

I should mention I requested any QUAD or 5.1 they can possibly supply.Live or Studio.
And that's a very easy survey to complete,so any and all QQ fans should jump on board to support GG in surround. (y)

Done! I even asked for protective plastic or fabric sleeves for all of the discs - that's always been a peeve that I have with these big boxes, especially...
