Can anyone point me to a quality surround rendition of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (Magic Flute)?

As of Dec 9 Amazon Video is playing Season 3 of "Mozart in the Jungle". The show has a fair amount of classical music in surround format, and it sounds GREAT.

In particular during the end credits from episode 1 (season 3), there's a surround-encoded rendition of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, K. 620: Pa-Pa-Pa-Papagena!. Amazon advertises this track on the series CD soundtrack, but I can't find it anywhere in surround format except for the series episode itself.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

A quick search tells me that there's no audio-only version The Magic Flute in surround sound (edited to add: actually, there is one - it's out of print, and the only review says the MCH mix is a disaster). However, there are many versions on blu-ray, and the version that seems to be the go-to is Colin Davis's 2003 version, which includes 5.1 PCM audio: https://www.amazon.com/Mozart-Zauberflote-Blu-ray-Simon-Keenlyside/dp/B00142X56Y/

Generally speaking, although there are many great historic recordings of operas in audio only, I find it difficult to justify audio-only for an opera, especially if I'm sitting down with my surround A/C system.

Yes, Ubertrout, you're quite correct....SEEING is BELIEVING.

I was spinning this the other night and it comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Beautiful rendition and extremely DISCRETE [and CHEAP for 3 DTS discs....NOT DVD~Audio as stated by Amazon): https://www.amazon.com/Aida-Giusepp...keywords=Ricardo+Muti+AIDA+DTS&tag=acleint-20
