I have that very disc. Picked mine up yrs back.

This is the current reincarnation of Lighthouse and the surround album was recorded "live in the studio". If your a fan it's worth the price alright. This album contains all their hits re-recorded with the current band.

Good surround, as it's not live but live in the studio. Too bad it's only DD , but sounds pretty good overall.

I don't remember seeing your review Elmer but it is a good one!

I agree - despite being only in Dolby, it does sound decent with a enjoyable discrete 5.1 mix.

I play this one fairly regularly

I just found a used version of this. Have not got it but will comments on it when I do. Looking forward to hearing this.

Odd, I've never heard of Lighthouse, yet I see they formed in 1968 or so. Here is a link to Amazon and you can buy a used copy for $12.99 or a new copy for around $15-18 depending on shipping and or tax.

Just listened to their "hits" and I still don't know them. They got the rock and horns thing going. Chicago-ish to some degree...

The original One Fine Morning LP is supposedly EV-4 matrix encoded. Mark Anderson does not list it in his quad discography.

Although not surround, the FLAC or 2 CD 10th anniversary (expanded) Legacy Edition of Supernatural - Santana includes a KILLER VERSION of One Fine Morning. That track is NOT included on the 5.1 DVD-A or original album. Check it out. http://flacmusic.info/12499-santana-supernatural-legacy-edition-2010.html

Yea they were a great band. Might be worth picking up if you like that sound.

I'm quite certain that "One Fine Morning" was not encoded, not the Canadian GRT version anyway. One track "Hat's Off To The Stranger" from "4 Channel Musical Sampler" on Evolution is encoded. It's frustrating that for the longest time "Lighthouse" was only available on various CD hit's compilations. Now they are all available on CD, the first ones came out from Korea and might have been sourced from vinyl. I have One Fine Morning Blu-Spec CD from Japan, but I'm not totally satisfied with the sound. Too loud, brick walled, clipped. My favourite "Thoughts of Moving On" came out last year on European "Prog Temple", it sounds great. I notice that "One Fine Morning" is available as an European release, with a different cover, might be worth checking if it sounds better. NO CANADIAN RELEASES?!!!

I ordered "40 years of Sunny Days" immediately after seeing this thread. Too bad that singer Bob McBride is no longer with us, I can't imagine the classic hits being sung by anyone else.

I have a sneaking suspicion that their debut LP "One Fine Morning" was set to be released either as a Q8 or QS LP, possibly EV-4, I cannot confirm.
My suspicion is substantiated by two tracks off the O.F.M. LP appearing an a Sylvania Q8 sampler tape (billed as being provided by Evolution Records), in lovely discrete sound. I also recall reading in a vintage magazine how Evolution Records (Lighthouse's label at the time) was set to release some Quadraphonic albums - no titles were mentioned and as we all know only one appeared. It was a sampler Q8 which featured most of the tracks from the Sylvania Sampler, however this time around lacking the Lighthouse tracks.

I love how something I posted 6 years ago and then again at the end of last year has been the impetus for all of this sudden interest. It's all good - gotta love QQ!

A good sounding transfer of the "One Fine Morning" original Lighthouse single can be had on Have a Nice Day, Volume 6 CD on Rhino: https://www.amazon.com/Super-Hits-70s-Have-Nice/dp/B0000032RF
It was NOT included on the 7 CD "Have a Nice Decade" box with the smiley carpeting, which I highly recommend. All KILLA, NO FILLA!

As to whether or not OFM is Quad, it doesn't surprise me that it is not. As I mentioned, Mark didn't list it. Besides the "smiley" Rhino Vol. 6, I do have a mint US Evolution cassette that I was gifted 40 years ago. I've never bothered to see if that decodes properly, due to azimuth, etc. issues.

I also tried to decode another Evolution title that I have on a mint US LP: "Enlightenment" by Dorothea Joyce (Evolution 3015). It synthesized fairly well, but didn't decode. If you like Laura Nyro, you might like this. Many of you may know Love's Lines, Angles and Rhymes, which she wrote and is included on this album. 5th Dimension released a single of it. Diana Ross also covered it on her first solo album.

Although there is a You Tube video of DJ's Love's Lines, it is NOT the 1972 version.

Long ago and far away (probably the late '80s?) there was a Lighthouse CD out of Canada that was a compilation that also had remixes of tracks like "One Fine Morning" that were stereo but IMO, way too different: not just the mixes, but there was an arid, 'digital' ultraclean sheen to those tracks. Alas, buried up north, wish I had it here right now. What that CD did tell me was that multitracks exist for *some* Lighthouse; maybe most of their catalog (at least at the time).

As for decoding the stereo OFM (long version), never occurred to me, though remembering the mix, it would have made for a very strong quad.

Just listened to their "hits" and I still don't know them. They got the rock and horns thing going. Chicago-ish to some degree...

OFM and "Sunny Days" (both edited from longer versions) were their only U.S. hits. As for their sound, more Blood, Sweat & Tears (DCT edition) than Chicago, by a mile.

ED :)

I like this and enjoy the surround on the dvd. One Fine Morning in its original quadraphonic 8-track version is a surround sound giggle...and a great song.

Two songs from Lighthouse in EV-4 , two hit singles that is . One each from Quad Samplers whereby Evolution Records issued Matrix Encoded tracks from their stable of artists.

Wouldn't be a shock that their "Stereo Dimension" series were encoded, but I think historically it's somewhat unlikely as at this time in Quad Promotions (73/72) many and most labels were pushing Quad LP'S .

QUAD + QUADRAPHONIC hadn't become a DIRTY WORD yet , that came a few years later . So to indicate your discs were " in Quadraphonic " was good for sales during this time .

"One Fine Morning " and "Hats Off To The Stranger " :D(y)

(and they sound pretty good in quad , btw but I utilized QS. A-bit of a cheat but it worked just fine)

Quad mix by John Eargle and Bob Lifton . Mr. Eargle went on later to become a big CD'4 supporter/promoter.

Whether or not any more of Lighthouse's musical hits were Quad mixed will always be a mystery. They were radio staples on Canadian airwaves .

Listening the Dvd right now. Holy smokes does it bring back lot of fine memories. Excellent music, really well done surround in Dolby. Reminds me of the quality of the Live but in a controlled studio with no fans that Springsteen did for the Darkness on the Edge of Town boxed set. More current bands should do this with their older material. Live but in a controlled studio setting.
