One of my first 10 LP's in my youth, I know every song like the back of my hand. The original album cover had embossed lettering, the first to my knowledge.

Will be getting Vincibus Eruptum on SACD for sure. Already have the original stereo lp and a mono CD. Now I hope someone will eventually release their 2nd album on a SACD. Then maybe I can finally hear the alleged boat whistle in the background.

It looks like AF's next (stereo) release is Spirit's self-titled debut album from 1968, the one that has Fresh Garbage and Taurus (which Jimmy Page totally did/did not rip off for Stairway To Heaven) on it.

It's scheduled to arrive on May 26th along with the several-times-delayed Blue Cheer 'Vincebus Eruptum' disc.

The only release I see for April from AF is the Eddie And The Cruisers Soundtrack which comes out on the 28th, unless I'm missing something.

Steve Hoffman has announced on Facebook and his SH Forums that Audio Fidelity will be releasing remastered Hybrid Stereo SACDs by Spirit.
The albums feature master tapes from the Sony Music vaults.

"I was quite surprised when I started working for Marshall Blonstein at DCC (and now Audio Fidelity) of his intimacy with the band. His cousin Lou Adler produced them and Marshall was there with them, a lot. In fact, he IS Silky Sam, you can hear him on the song, dealing cards. My boss!

Marshall has some really funny stories about those guys which I can't really go into. They were a trip, that's for sure.

So, I'm working right now with Stephen Marsh on the first two SPIRIT albums, from ODE Records back in 1968. The first thing to get "clear" (coming later) about is this:

The Audio Fidelity SACDs of these two albums use the original stereo 1968 mixes for each and every song. We are not using any remixed songs for these two albums. Sony really helped us, found the ORIGNAL tapes and we are grateful for it.

Mastering these two albums was fun and also a bit frustrating at the same time. The first album is straightforward for the most part but the second album, yikes, the songs that are segued together pose a problem. The issue is the azimuth is different for each song on the album so they really had to be dialed in just right for good mastering.

Even though some songs sound like they were recorded at the back of a laundry, I think you'll appreciate the fact (at least I hope so) that we didn't add a bunch of treble to the songs or compress or limit any of the songs to make them pop or sound up to date. We kept the vintage charm intact. We trust that you will just turn up your system a bit to get the full impact of the songs."

Very good point.. and it is (and I'm not bashing them, just expressing my h.o) something I did struggle with AF's approach somewhat.. so what if MFSL did "That's The Way Of The World" & "They Only Come Out At Night" on SACD a decade+ ago..!?
After all, they were Stereo only, didn't sound great and are now long out of print and hard to find.
If AF had done those two on Surround SACD the whole endeavour may have been more successful for them and for us - just how I feel and I am glad and thankful for all they did - and wish they were continuing with 5.1/Quad but at this point they appear not to be, so hopefully Sony Japan & Dutton Vocalion will continue where they left off.

oh.. and as if by magic, word comes from the SHF that Mr.H is remastering Weather Report's "Heavy Weather".. there's been an SACD of that before, from Sony, so hopefully AF's will be an improvement, the old one's mediocre imho.

Blue Cheer, Vincebus Erupttum, stereo DSD. I have had the original 1968 LP, listening on a fold out stereo box, then original cassette and CD. If you have never heard this before, musically, you would probably not like it. Loud, heavy music, recorded loud in 1968. The type of music my parents, yelled "turn it down". So today I did all I know how to do and listen to it loud. Nothing changed. I am sure Audio Fidelity's 2017's release is the best I ever heard, but it is what it is. I closed my eyes and listened just the same as I did when I was 12 not knowing how much music I would see, hear, and play in my life. From a audiophiles point of view who has listened to this release a thousand times, the stereo soundstage is narrow, left guitar, right bass and drums, vocals stereo center which is really nice, drums resonate very well, I am sure I never heard drums and cymbals sound that good, bass is good on some but not all tracks. Thanks AF, for doing a great job with, I am sure not an easy source to even consider a SACD.
