I generally prefer to buy physical than download, but that Fischer album is really interesting - I've been interested in hearing his compositions.

The first question is what audio equipment will you be playing this Multichannel DSD Download on?

If it's a multichannel disc player, like the Oppo 103 or 105, your best bet would be to copy the album in Multichannel DSD 64 format to a USB drive - or a USB hard disc.
Then you could insert the USB drive or hard disc with the Multichannel DSD 64 files into one of the Oppo's USB ports and play it back via the Multichannel DSD DAC in the Oppo 103 or 105 disc player.

Oppo 93. Not sure if that would work...I know it works with USB, but I'm not sure what files it supports.

It's been awhile since I owned an Oppo 93. I don't think it plays DSD music files.
The newer Oppos (103, 105, 203) certainly do.

Bummer. I was reading a bit about DSD Discs, but apparently they can only be stereo.

DSD Discs are playable on a very limited selection of devices (some Sony VAIO PCs, etc.)
Wouldn't help with an Oppo 93.

They originally popped up when a few web sites were offering downloads in the "DSD File" format, in the days before music download files became popular.

I have a few dual-layer blank discs lying around, and burned a DSD Disc with the multichannel DSF files of the Fischer Composer Portrait. A bit to my surprise, it plays just fine on a PS3, in multichannel. It's not terribly discrete but the recording is top-notch...and the music is excellent.

Nice. The PS3 to the rescue !

There wasn't a lot of discrete activity in the surrounds - it was a pretty typical classical mix where the surrounds complement the sound...at least from my perspective. I didn't really mean it as a critique.

If you're looking for something with a more aggressive, immersive mix in the Classical Music arena, check out the album "Four Four Three" on Channel Classics.
Jared Sacks calls it a "Full Multichannel DSD" recording in his blog post (see link below).

It's also one of the Best of 2016, 15% Off titles in Multichannel DSD this week.
And a DSD Exclusive, not Available on SACD.

"On setting up the Riley ‘In C’ for 8 players, it was clear that we should record this 40 minute work in complete multichannel, which resulted in the group playing in a circle with the microphones in the middle. This has created an amazing audio spectrum when listening in full multichannel. One is literally sitting in the middle with the audio of all speakers surrounding you.

Turn down the lights, have a sip of wine to relax you, and let the music of Terry Riley give you a complete audio experience."

I wasn't, really, but that is interesting. I'll bear it in mind.

OK. Thanks for the clarification.
