Gave this a whirl - cool to see the 3D tech used for opera, although the effect isn't terribly dramatic - an exaggerated sense of perspective about the actors. Whoever thought it was acceptable to only have a Dolby Digital track (even at 640k) on an opera BD needs a good talking to, though. I got it cheap but wouldn't pay full price for it.

AmazonUS is blowing out the Special Edition 3D/2D Collector's Edition boxset of Man of Steel for $17 [was $60]: https://www.amazon.com/Man-of-Steel...65953&creativeASIN=B00ENXBUR2&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Comes in a Superman emblem~shaped tin case and a pedestal on which the emblem rests. Pretty cool.

Since Warners 'pressed' 50,000 copies of this steelbook version [WOW: compared to recent MoFi pressings of 1K~3K SACD reissues], I advise those who have ANY interest in this title to grab a copy. It's very elaborate. 4 Discs are included [1 3D BD~V/1 2D BD~V, 1 BD~V Bonus disc of Special Features and a DVD]. Very Cool packaging and even comes with a lucite pedestal on which the emblem shaped Superman Tin rests.

The Quality of the 3D and Sonics are stunning. Amazingly DISCRETE.

Also, Deep Purple Live at Wacken [Germany] is highly recommended, especially at its under $10 AmazonUS pricing. Again, the 3D is stunning, the sonics are superb and the last half hour will leave you cheering. Superb musicianship.

Prior to it's release on Home Video [4K/3D BD~V], Terminator 2: Judgment Day is having a limited run in movie theaters in a newly post converted 3D exhibition.

Here is Blu Ray.com's assessment of the 2017 3D release: http://www.blu-ray.com/Terminator-2-Judgement-Day-3D/720227/#Review

Perhaps if sales of the 3D version of Judgment Day prove successful, Cameron will tackle a 3D post conversion of The Abyss, which IMO, has NEVER had a proper home video release.

Just in from Hi def Digest: James Cameron is preparing UHD 4K/BD~V releases of both True Lies and The Abyss.:banana: The delay has been caused by Cameron's current work on three Avatar Sequels.

Of course both will probably be 2D only.

Well I finally sat down to watch "Guardians of the Galaxy, Part 2" in 3D tonight. The film was pretty good, the 3D was excellent at times, but the surround audio was severely lacking. I had to check multiple times that I had selected the DTS-HD Master Audio track. The sound pretty much emanated from the fronts, and it was not until the very end of the film, when there is the "space fireworks" show that the rears actually revealed themselves. That was a big disappointment. It would have been nice to have those old tunes in a surround mix.

I wonder if the regular BluRay has a different audio track? Might be worth ripping just to see what comes out.

Anyway, good movie, good 3D, not-so-good surround.

Also, it was a bitch to get. Only sold through Best Buy and of course it was all sold out by noon on release day everywhere. Freakin' exclusives, really piss me off.

I likewise bought the Best Buy Exclusive Guardians of the Galaxy, Part II [4K/3D/2D steelbook edition] and only watched the BD~V 2D on my projector. The sound was robust and I didn't notice any anomalies. Will of course watch the 3D at some point.

All I can say is everyone needs a GROOT. He was my favorite character. I was 8 again.@:

Yeah, those Best Buy exclusives sell quickly (the Kong: Skull Island 4K/3D/2D steelbook was also excellent and now OOP] but by now, Jon, we should be used to LIMITED EDITIONS.

We. Are. Groot. :upthumb

Maybe GROOT can help me alphabetize my ridiculously unwieldy RBCD, SACD, DVD~A, BD~A, BD~V, 3D BD~V collection.....because I certainly cannot!:ugham:

But then again, GROOT has a mind of his own and doesn't follow simple commands....so on second thought:yikes

BTW, We.Are.Groot could be the next Steve Wilson album as in Hand.Cannot.Erase.(y)

Oh Lordy. Tell me about it. I need to "thin the herd" a little, so to speak. Not enough shelf space! Wife angry! :slap:

When will they get to a reissue of Hondo in 3D? A lot of these 3D restorations look great but are still lame movies.....

I just bought and watched Everest in 3D and it is easily one of the best 3D titles I have bought so far. And the extras are almost as good as the movie entertainment wise (they aren't in 3D and surround). The surround on this disc is basically as good as it gets for a movie. You really feel like you are in a blizzard. Turn off the heat in your house before watching it and you will be positive you are on Everest. It is amazing because it is almost a documentary. They made no attempt to Hollywoodize the story by adding romances or plot points to the story. The story is great as it is and the scenery just keeps blowing you away so there is no need to add extra hokum.

Speaking of spectacular, my favorite 3D movie/surround sound experience is the fabulous Lichmond 3.

I play this disc almost every day. Not only is the 3D spectacular and the sound quality off the charts (9.1) I love the music. The interesting thing is the video and the audio are not synced like Animusic but it is still stunning. One of the best songs is Catching Rainbows. It really feels like you are flying in 3D.

The 3D is so spectacular on these puppies that you'd swear it was UHD 4K PLUS PLUS. The entire series is great. Well worth seeking out.
